The problem is companies that have been successful in a local market often failed in the global market as they expand because the lack of vision and the business knowhow.<\/p>\n<p>There are differences between a local market and a global. For example, a company may know about the local customers and their needs but have no idea of the global customers and what they want. They may know what price a local customers would pay but do not know how to set the right price for their products or services with global customers. They may know who their local competitors are but do not know about their global competitors and how they operate. Because of this lack of information, they cannot accomplish what they could efficiently.<\/p>\n<p>Today information technology is being used to narrow down this gap and creates huge advantage for global companies. The purpose of information technology is to create efficiency and effectiveness for the business by providing all the necessary facts and data for management to make the right decisions. That is why no global company can be successful without information technology. That is why information technology has become the strategic role because today information equals success. When markets are well understood, when information are provided accurately, management can make decisions quickly with much less waste or delay. The problem is some company leaders do not understand the role of information technology to take advantage of its potential. This lack of knowledge often creates confusions and makes information technology implementation a burden rather than an advantage.<\/p>\n<p>A well informed leaders should consider information technology as a business strategy that describe how the company plans to use information to improve its competitive edge; they must use it as a framework that includes policies, standards and best practices to manage the business process and provide the roadmap to success; Information technology is a solutions based on a well defined business plans to support all company\u2019s decision making to ensure the right information is available at the right time to make the right decision.<\/p>\n<p>To successfully implement information technology, company needs to have knowledgeable and skilled people to achieving success. Top companies always have well trained workers with information technology knowledge from top to bottom. When workers are well educated, experienced, and skilled, they can act without much supervision, be able to response quickly to market change, and bring more value to company. To succeed in global market, having skilled workers is essential. That explain why there is a critical shortage of skilled technology people all over the world because every country needs them.<\/p>\n<p>Since technology changes fast, another key factor to achieve success is adaptability. If a company has only one way of competing in the market then competitors can set up their defenses against that strategy. For example, if a company relies on low price as the main advantage then competitors could either reduce their price or outsource works to lower cost countries and neutralize the \u201cLow price\u201d factor. However, if there are multiple ways to compete then the competitors would have much more difficult. Fifty years ago, Japanese car maker Toyota was relying mostly on low priced cars to enter the global market. After entering the market successfully, they learned to add quality to their cars to get more people to buy. When gas price increases, they redesigned their cars to lower gas consumption, but kept high quality and fair prices to continue to gain more customers. Their quickly adaptation to market changes helps them to become the largest car makers in the world today.<\/p>\n<p>Basically, global economy has forced leaders to change the way they think and manage to remain successful. Some have changed but some have not and the results are obvious as the ones who could not change often failed and their companies quickly disappeared. In the past thirty years, more than 60% of large companies have file for bankruptcy and the list continues. We are seeing a lot of these cases lately as many companies in Europe are on the brink of collapsing together with their economies.
