Teachers, Parents, and Students<\/p>\n
For many parents, selecting a school for their children is a difficult task. Regardless whether it is a kindergarten, an elementary school, a high-school, or even college, your choice of school will have an impact on the future of your children. Many parents have several questions in their mind: Public school or private school? Local school or international affiliate school? Traditional program or technology focus program? Famous or lesser known school? Old school or newly built school?<\/p>\n
However, there are two factors that parents need to take into the consideration: The teacher and the students. Teachers are the pillars of the education system. A good teacher can make a difference in the lives of students. When parents consider the teaching profession as the foundation of society, they always respect and appreciate the role of the teachers. However, when parents disrespect the teachers, the negative impact can be devastating to the students. There is a story about a Banker and a Teacher as follows: At the new year party where many people gather to celebrate, a Banker is telling everybody about how rich he is, how much money he has, how big is his house, and how much he paid for his expensive car. When he sees a teacher come to the party on his bicycle, he comments: “Look at that poor person, he is the elementary school teacher.” The teacher slowly walked to him and said: “If you know how to count, you better thank a teacher.”<\/p>\n
Instead of choosing a school, parents may need to think carefully about who will be teaching their children. It would be better to find out more about the teachers than the expensive program or newly built school. Of course, every school will tell you that they have the best teachers, but parents should do more than that. They should ask about the qualification of the teachers or ask the parents of other students on how their children were taught, and how much they have learned. They should also ask: “Does this school hire the best teachers, paying them good enough, so all they do is focus on teaching and nothing else? Or the school only hire whoever they can get, or “part-time” teachers who also have another job somewhere?<\/p>\n
It is easy to blame the school or the teachers, but there is another factor: The students. In any education system, learning is the work of the students, NOT the teachers. The teachers are there to guide the students to learn and help them to achieve their educational goals. If the students have no motivation to learn; if the students do not want to learn, even the best teachers cannot do anything.<\/p>\n
Teaching is NOT the job of the teacher alone. Both parents and teachers must work together for the education of the students. When the parents are too busy and often “Outsource” the education of their children to the teachers than the future of their children could be at risk. No teacher can replace the parents in educating their children because children learn first from their parents. When the parents “disrespect” the teachers, do you think the children will act differently? When the parents “look down” on the teaching profession, do you think the children will learn better? When a society disrespect the teaching profession, do you think their people could be better educated?<\/p>\n
The students go to school to get educated and prepare for their future career. In elementary school,\u00a0 besides the basic skills such as reading, writing, and math, etc., students must learn to respect their parents, their teachers, and the elderly.\u00a0 A high school teacher not only helps students to develop a firm foundation in many subjects but also understand their responsibilities to their family, their society, and their country. By having the basic skills and firm foundation, students are ready to go to college, where they learn to develop their career as skilled professionals and be good citizens who contribute to their country.<\/p>\n
