According to Zhaopin Research limited, Today, China’s college graduates are facing a more challenging in finding work with a declining monthly salary. This year (2017) China will have a record of 7.95 million college graduating students who are looking for a job, but most will not be able to find a suitable job related to their study.<\/p>\n
Although the economy is still relatively strong, based on the economic index report by the government, certain challenges exist for college graduates. According to the report, about 68% of graduates still believed by having a degree they can get a job without considering the market needs. These graduates are mostly frustrated because many will be unemployed for a long time. Only 27% of college graduates had selected the right field of study and found employment. The average monthly salary for college graduates declined by 16% this year to RMB $4,014 due to high competition; more graduates compete for the same job. The information Technology sector offered the highest monthly salary of RMB $4,867, followed by Banking and financial sector of RMB$ 4,692.<\/p>\n
According to the Zhaopin report, 81% of graduates submitted 11 to 30 resumes this year, and 12% even gave out more than 61 resumes to potential employers, but it was tough to get an interview because most companies are too busy and overwhelmed with so many applications. However, there is approximately 35% of graduates who had job offers but declined due to the reason that the salary did not meet their expectation.<\/p>\n
The number of students who continue to further their education to Master and Ph.D. also dropped sharply to less than 6.3% this year. The main reason is most students understand that the higher the degree, the more difficult to find a job. However, the number of students who want to further their education overseas is increasing to 14% this year, from 8% last year. The top oversea countries to study are the U.S., Canada, Australia, and England.<\/p>\n
About\u00a0 10% of graduates said they do not want to get a job after graduation but like to take some time off to travel. It also reflects major attitude changes from previous years. However, the report found most of these graduates come from wealthy families with good connection and probably do not need a job at this moment.<\/p>\n
There is another attitude change among college graduates. About 56% of graduates preferred jobs with “Opportunities to learn more and grow in their career.”, While 42% chose “Good salary and more secure position.” It was the first time that “Learning opportunities” had overtaken “Good salary” as the most important factor for a college graduate to choose a job.<\/p>\n
