Do \u0111\u00f3, gi\u00e1o d\u1ee5c STEM l\u00e0 quan tr\u1ecdng cho s\u1ef1 s\u1ed1ng c\u00f2n c\u1ee7a n\u01b0\u1edbc h\u1ecd, v\u00e0 t\u01b0\u01a1ng lai c\u1ee7a con c\u00e1i h\u1ecd. Theo m\u1ed9t kh\u1ea3o c\u1ee9u m\u1edbi, l\u00ed do ch\u00ednh l\u00e0 vi\u1ec7c d\u1ea1y truy\u1ec1n th\u1ed1ng kh\u00f4ng ph\u00f9 h\u1ee3p v\u1edbi gi\u00e1o d\u1ee5c STEM. Ph\u01b0\u01a1ng ph\u00e1p \u0111\u00e1nh gi\u00e1 hi\u1ec7n th\u1eddi d\u00f9ng b\u00e0i ki\u1ec3m tra v\u00e0 b\u00e0i thi \u0111\u00e3 t\u1ea1o ra n\u1ed7i s\u1ee3 tr\u01b0\u1ee3t cho nhi\u1ec1u h\u1ecdc sinh. V\u00e0 thi\u1ebfu \u0111\u00e0o t\u1ea1o th\u1ea7y gi\u00e1o trong d\u1ea1y STEM \u0111\u00e3 l\u00e0m ch\u1eadm tr\u1ec5 vi\u1ec7c th\u1ef1c hi\u1ec7n gi\u00e1o d\u1ee5c STEM \u1edf nhi\u1ec1u n\u01b0\u1edbc. Theo nghi\u00ean c\u1ee9u n\u00e0y, nhi\u1ec1u n\u01b0\u1edbc \u0111\u00e3 l\u1eadp m\u1ee5c ti\u00eau s\u1ed1 l\u01b0\u1ee3ng, c\u00f3 nhi\u1ec1u h\u1ecdc sinh h\u01a1n v\u00e0o tr\u01b0\u1eddng thay v\u00ec h\u1ed9i t\u1ee5 v\u00e0o ch\u1ea5t l\u01b0\u1ee3ng, l\u00e0m cho h\u1ecdc sinh h\u1ecdc c\u00e1i g\u00ec \u0111\u00f3 h\u1eefu d\u1ee5ng cho h\u1ecd v\u00e0 cho x\u00e3 h\u1ed9i c\u1ee7a h\u1ecd. We can see the evidence of self-driving cars and trucks in several places. We can see robots are operating in many factories and soon we will see more factories and offices are using automated machines to replace human.<\/p>\n<p>According to an industry report, automation is not just happening in the U.S.or Europe, but it is rapidly being used in Asia too. Surprisingly, China is the country that imports more robots and automated machines than any others, because it wants to remain competitive in this global economy. An industry analyst warned: &#8220;The outsourcing trend is over, today countries are using automation to keep jobs in their country for their people. Countries that depend on factory outsourcing will see unemployment rises quickly and their economy collapsing soon.&#8221; Another analyst wrote: &#8220;Automation and Artificial Intelligence will completely change the way people work.\u00a0 Workers everywhere will find their jobs being done by machine. People who have technology knowledge and skills will get jobs with a higher salary. Other people without the technology skills will feel threatened, confused, and may not be able to keep their jobs. But whether they like or dislike, everyone&#8217;s work will change in some way and faster than most people think.<\/p>\n<p>Because most of the jobs of the future will come from Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics areas (STEM), every country will need to shift their education system toward STEM skills as fast as possible. Therefore, STEM education is vital to the surviving of their country, and the future of their children. Education has many goals, but the main one is to prepare children and young people to become employable adults with skills that will benefit them and the society. By the time students leave high school, they should have developed some basic skills and knowledge to contribute in the workplace. To further development, every country will need a skilled workforce with a college education who can think creatively and solve scientific and technological problems.<\/p>\n<p>However, despite the call to promote STEM education over the last several years, many students have shown less interest in studying Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in schools. According to a new study, the main reason is traditional teaching not suitable for STEM education. The long hours in class listen to lectures and memorize so many facts, and data have made many students disinterested in learning STEM. The current assessment method of using tests and exams have created a fear of failure for many students. And the lack of teachers&#8217; training in teaching STEM has delayed the implementation of STEM education in many countries. According to this study, many countries are targeting quantity, having more students go to school rather than focus on quality, having students learn something that can be useful for them and their society. Overcrowded classrooms, lesser qualified teachers, traditional teaching method, lack of up-to-date teaching materials have created a poor learning environment where students do not want to learn and teachers who do not want to teach also create a high absenteeism among both students and their teachers. The study also found another reason that students are reluctant to study STEM areas because there is NOT enough information provided to them by the school. Many students and their family DO NOT know much about the fields, and they are not prepared earlier to study in these areas.<\/p>\n<p>To improve the education system, we must solve these issues by getting more students into school and keeping students who are in school learning more, especially in reading, writing, basic math and science concepts using new teaching method, less memorization but more on the application. We should avoid the problem of having students trained for jobs in which the demand is low, while high-demand jobs, particularly those in STEM fields, go unfilled. STEM-related jobs are not just a source of jobs; they are a source of jobs that pay very well. Last year, GeorgetownUniversity reported that 65 percent of those with Bachelors&#8217; degrees in STEM fields earn more than Master&#8217;s degrees in non-STEM occupations. And 47 percent of Bachelor&#8217;s degrees in STEM occupations, especially in Information Technology earn more than PhDs in non-STEM occupations.<\/p>\n<p>For many years of teaching, I believe that teacher training, especially in new teaching method such as Active learning is essential. You cannot teach STEM by memorization or lecturing technique. Students must have hands-on practical to discover, investigate, discuss, and come up with their understanding of these topics at deeper levels. To improve teaching resource, we can use computer-assisted learning, where students can watch a video of scientific experiments rather read it from a book or listen to a lecture. Just buying more computers in schools will not help but everything must come with appropriate learning software, and teachers with technical knowledge to get the training effective implemented.<\/p>\n<p>There are studies that found most students who are studying STEM fields in college make that choice early in high school. And high school students who did well in STEM classes also have a strong foundation in elementary school. That means STEM education must be implemented throughout the entire education system, from elementary school to high school to increase the number of students who will study STEM in college.<\/p>\n<p>Today when we look at the global statistics, it reveals a serious issue with higher unemployment in every country, and at the same time, there are large numbers of jobs that are going unfilled. These jobs are going unfilled because there are NOT enough people with the right skill sets, and these jobs are all related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). I believe that improving education in STEM will ensure that the country can compete globally, create more jobs, and achieve the levels of economic growth to catch up with others.
