After reading \u201cLetter to a teacher,\u201d a person wrote to me: \u201cIt is easy for you to say about teaching because you live and work in another country. But in my country, being a teacher is very difficult. Many teachers are frustrated with the current education system, they cannot live off their salary so many left for better jobs elsewhere. I do not know why you are still writing about education and teaching?<\/p>\n

Answer: No one says teaching is easy, regardless where you teach or where you live. But every person who chooses to be teachers has certain personal reasons. While there are different personal reasons, I think the deepest reason is the wish to improve students\u2019 lives and make them better. Although the education system has been unchanged for hundreds of years but in this technology-driven world, it must change to meet the need of the society. I think many people recognize this need and decide to become a teacher to affect the change and to make a difference. Teachers can have a direct effect on students in the classroom. They may not be able to change the education system, but they can change their students. Over time, a good teacher can help hundreds or even thousands of students to a better future.<\/p>\n
Teachers do more than just teach as their influence can be far and wide because many students look up to them as a role model and supporter. The best thing I can describe the teaching profession is they make a difference in the lives of many students and nurture the future generation. Besides the parents, teachers have the opportunity to interact with students at all stages of their development, from elementary to college. A good teacher can help students along this educational path by encouraging them, help them to realize their potential, support them to make the right decisions, influence their behaviors, understand their strengths and weaknesses, and improve their characters. Good teachers can share with students about honesty, integrity, ethics and moral to shape their characters. When students are young, they can be taught about respect, honesty, and filial responsibility. When they grow up as a young adult, they can be taught about responsibilities to their family, their society and their country. What they learn in class will shape their future and who they will become. Teachers develop the next generation and the future of a country, and this is a big responsibility, that some people are willing to take it.<\/p>\n
I am writing about education because I care. I believe to become a teacher is to contribute to the society and the country, in a meaningful way. Even in a difficult situation like in your country, many students still need help, and without a proper education, their future will be bleak and without teachers, your whole society may face many difficulties. This is why a teaching profession is urgently needed, and people must recognize how much of a difference a devoted teacher can make.<\/p>\n
