According to a global economic report, technology job market is exploding all over the world. There were over 1.3 million new technology jobs filled in 2014 but still not meet the global demand. In the past ten years, technology industry has grown faster than any industry due to more startups creates new jobs. This \u201cHot\u201d market results in fierce fighting among companies for talents in technology fields. An analyst wrote: \u201cToday if you have technology skills such as hardware design or software engineering, you can command a higher salary and opportunity to work wherever you want.\u201d<\/p>\n
The report stated that as the global economy begin to recover, companies are beginning to hire. There were 250,000 new technology job openings in January of 2015 alone as the global hiring is accelerating. The industry predicts that they will need about 3 million additional skilled workers in 2015 but universities can only produce less than 800,000 technology graduates this year, so the shortage continues. The high demand for technology skills already caused a big change in hiring. Every company, from startups to large corporations, begins to offer higher salary, stocks option, and special benefits to attract top talents. Most companies no longer require experience for entry-level positions as they start recruiting students several months before graduation date and that trend is catching. Big companies aggressively recruit early to help fill their urgent needs and smaller companies are starting to do the same. The trend of hiring students before they graduate can save company time and money. By following students\u2019 progress when they are still in school, companies can find the best ones that meet their needs and hire them before they graduate. In the past, companies were relying on interviews to find good graduates but the problem was that everyone is doing the same thing at the same time so competition was fierce. By recruiting students several months or even a year earlier, the company has a better chance of getting what they want. Once students are hired before they graduate, they do not look for another job and companies do not have problem with competition. This process will take less time and money than the traditional way. A manager explained: \u201cEntry-level graduates are easier to train; they are passionate about their career and wiling to learn anything. With proper guidance, they will be able to be productive in a short time and become valuable employees.\u201d<\/p>\n
In order to hire students when they are still in school, companies often work with universities to track students\u2019 progress as well as review training programs to make sure that the universities have quality trainings that meet their needs. Universities also benefit by having inputs from industry to improve their training as well as hiring their students. A company executive explained: \u201cThis collaboration is important as it provide benefits to both industry and university. We know which schools are good, which school has the best training programs and which schools are not meeting our needs.\u201d In this highly competitive market, large companies have the advantage as they are using their well-known brand as a key in the hiring the best graduates as well as influence the program trainings to help them getting the skills that they need. Of course, most technology graduates want to work for top companies such as Google, Facebook, Amazon, Apple and Microsoft so they will select universities that have collaborations with these companies to make sure that they will be able to get the best jobs with better incentives, stock options and profit sharing.<\/p>\n
