When entering college, every student is facing choices and whatever they make will affect their future. Making good choice, they may get good career opportunity. Making bad choice and they may ruin their future. Every first-year students come to school full of hope but after few years, some admitted that they regret on what they did and wish that they could have made better decision. Following are their stories:<\/p>\n
\u201cI am sorry that I did not plan my career carefully because I select a field of study based on my own illusion. I want to be a singer or movies star just to impress my friends. I choose courses that are relating to my wishes such as drama, music, arts, and act as I am a movies star. Basically I cheat myself and waste my time in college. Today I am unemployed with no future and having difficulty with my life. My advice: \u201cBe honest with yourself and plan your future accordingly.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cMany fields of study are difficult. I do not want to study hard so I select easy field of study where I can enjoy my time in college. There are many easy fields of study that you do not have to do much but still graduate with a degree. After four years, I graduated but could not find a job but I was not the only one as there were many graduates like me who selected easy fields and enjoyed a few years then have a whole life to regret. In this highly competitive market, it is too late to realize that you have made a big mistake as I wasted my time and my parents\u2019 money for a piece of \u201cdegree paper\u201d that does not mean much.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cMost college romances do not end up in something that you wish. Being pregnant and quit school is the most humiliated thing that can hurt you for the rest of your life. When go to college, think career first as relationship can wait. You cannot have both at the same time so do not even try. If you meet someone and think \u201cThis is the perfect person for me\u201d you are probably 80% wrong. You do not really know what a \u201cperfect person\u201d is but you do know what a \u201cperfect job\u201d is. Follow your instinct on what you know well. Chances are you will have a good career, bright future and everything will follow. I know it well because I have been there.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI select a field of study based solely on money. I want to be rich so I listen to \u201crumors\u201d that by study finance then work in stock market trading, I can make a lot of money. Now I know that there is no such thing a \u201cGet rich quick job\u201d. I did not research on how much I could make as a college graduate? What kind of job a college graduate could get? I believe that if I can get a stock trading job, I could get rich. I graduated when the financial crisis happened with millions of people lost their job so I had no chance. After many years being unemployed and live off my parents\u2019 supports, I get a job as bank teller with a minimum salary, a job that does not require a college degree. Currently I am worry that my job may be replaced by the ATM. If I know this, I never study business.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cGo to college means you spend a lot of time away from your family. As you are busy with new friends, new freedom, new activities you will forget about your family and people who care for you the most. When I went to college, I considered myself as an adult and I can do anything that I wanted. I ignored my parents\u2019 advices of being careful with people that I am associated with. I did not choose friends carefully and involved in dangerous activities of parties, music and drugs. I did not do well in school, wasted my parents\u2019 money. I was dismissed from school which was a humiliated experience for me and my family. Every university has students like me who make bad choice but now regret. My advice: \u201cThink about your family, your parents and do not make the same mistake. You go to school to learn but do not learn bitter lesson like me.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYou go to an \u201cOK school\u201d because it is easy to get in. You select an \u201cOK field of study\u201d because it is easy to pass classes. You have an \u201cOK degree\u201d, an \u201cOK job\u201d with an \u201cOK salary\u201d but is that what you really want? Why do you feel bitter when others have better jobs, better salary, and better life? Basically you are willing to select something that is just \u201cOK\u201d then you deserve it. If you do not want something like that then you must believe in yourself enough to go after what you want.
