Study Computer Science<\/p>\n

A student asked me: \u201cMy parents want me to study Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) in college but they let me chose which field that I like but I am still not sure which one. I am familiar with technology because I have computer, smartphone and Facebook account. But I am afraid that I may not do well in computer science as people tell me that it is difficult. Please help.\u201d<\/p>\n

Answer: Among several fields in STEM, I think technology is probably the best choice at this time because everything is being impacted by technology and there is a critical shortage of technology workers. Since you are familiar with technology, if you select computer science, I think you will do well.<\/p>\n

Your career belongs to you, not anybody else. Do not let others tell you about the difficulty or persuade you to learn something else. As long as you set your goals and put your efforts in, you can overcome almost everything. You should rely on your own strengths and believe in yourself to achieve your career objectives. Ask yourself, if computer science is very difficult then why so many students are enrolling in it? Are they better or smarter than you? Ask yourself, did people who say that computer science is difficult have studied computer science? Or they just heard from somebody who does not know anything about computer science? By study computer science, you will build a good career that will make your parents happy but most of all, it will give you a great career that lasts a long time. Of course, you need to study, put in efforts and along the way, continue to learn new things. Remember that you do not reach your goals immediately but you need to have patient by taking small steps but always persistent toward your goals. You also need to be passionate about your career perspective whether you are talking to your friends or your teachers. Having a clear passion for what you are learning will encourage others to have the same attitude and you will have a lot of friends with similar goals.<\/p>\n

Today computer science is one of the highest paid jobs students could get but your goals should not be measured in how much money you made but you should go beyond that to include how much you can contribute to your family, to your society, to your country. Being a skilled technologist will help you to do more than people expect. Selecting the right field of study, the right university and become skilled workers, a responsible citizen to your country will make your life more meaningful. By focusing your efforts in your studying based on your passion, goals, and be responsible for people which matter most in your life, you will find that everything, including challenges can be overcome easier than expected.<\/p>\n
