From students\u2019 perspective, teamwork can help them develop the needed skills that are important in the industry. Working in teams help students to learn more, be able to develop better relationships with one another, and contribute to their college success. Team projects can help improve both technical skills and soft-skills such as breakdown complex tasks into smaller parts where team members can refine their understanding through team discussions and explanations; team members also learn how to plan their works, managing their time, and develop better communication skills; Students can give and receive feedbacks on their works from other members and open their mind to different views and assumptions. It also helps students to manage large and complex problems that individuals may not be able to do on their own;<\/p>\n
From faculty\u2019s perspective, teamwork allows them to assign more complex problems to team of students than they could to individuals. Teamwork also introduces more unpredictability in teaching, since teams may approach tasks and solve problems in interesting ways. This can be refreshing for the professors. Additionally, team assignments can be useful when there are a limited number of project topics to distribute among students. And they can reduce the number of final products professors have to grade.<\/p>\n
To make teamwork more effective, the team must have clear vision and goals about what they need to do and delegate certain roles and responsibilities to each team member. No team is perfect in the beginning, there are always diverse perspectives on how to approach the team project but as a team, members must learn to work with each other to solve the issues. Team members must learn to listen, to collaborate and be able to hold one another accountable for their work. Although the potential benefits of teamwork are significant but it takes time to learn and develop effective teams. By simply assigning works to teams is no guarantee that they will work well together. The fact is teamwork often fail if it is not designed, supervised, monitored and assessed in a way that encourages meaningful collaboration.<\/p>\n
