The Product Owner in Scrum<\/p>\n

A developer wrote to me: \u201cAs we are defining roles for our Scrum project, should we let the users or customer be the Product owner?<\/p>\n

Answer: No, it is a mistake. Product owner should be part of the Scrum project team. This role is similar to the\u00a0business analyst or requirements engineer in regular tradition project and much more. The Product owner must understand development lifecycle, configuration management, customer relationship management and marketing. This is a full time position and important to the project. The role of the Product Owner is to develop a vision for the product; work with customers to prioritize product backlog; negotiate issues and changes with customers; guide and manage release strategy according to customers\u2019 needs; and develop requirements into deliverable user stories for each Sprint. A customer or user may not have the skills, the experience, and the time commit to the project. To be successful, Scrum requires an experienced team member to work with customers and users in parallel with the Scrum master and the Self-organizing team.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
