(i.e., Google moves into robotics, self-driving cars, and Amazon moves into Cloud Computing and tablets etc.) Management needs information quickly to make decisions before it is too late. (i.e., many companies are using Big data analytics and Business Intelligence software) Fewer people send letters via postal office but using email instead. (i.e., many post offices have been shut down due to slow business) Even email is considered slow as text message on mobile devices is far better. (i.e., number of text messages in mobile phone increases 600% in two years) In education, students want immediate-feedback on their learning progress rather than waiting for tests results (i.e., education research polling indicated 86% prefer quick feedbacks); Printed textbooks are things of the past as more e-textbooks are available to download etc. (i.e., 97% of printed newspapers are moving online and 35% newspapers have closed) Speed is getting more important and with mobility, it is getting faster than ever before.<\/p>\n
Today every company is changing technology platforms to mobility because more people are using mobile devices as their preferred way to communicate. There are more mobile apps than personal computer apps (i.e., Apple store have over one million iPhone apps and number is still increasing) and the number of mobile devices sold in 2013 was three times more than laptops. (i.e., currently there are over 1.5 billion smartphone users and 4 billion mobile phone users and the number of user is still increasing) It is predicted that in the next few years, personal computers will be things of the past as most people will use tablets and smartphones instead. The change in mobile technology has created a new generation of users that depending more on their mobile devices than anything else.<\/p>\n
Few years ago, people carried laptop but today it is the smartphone. (I.e., 86% people prefer to carry smartphones than Laptops) They read news, follow sports, check emails, send text massages, watch videos, play games, shop online and working use their smartphones. An executive said: \u201cWe used to buy laptops for our workers but since they all have smartphones and prefer to use them so we say you can Bring Your Own Devices (BYOD) to work and use them as you wish. We are reducing costs of buying laptops and let workers use their mobile phones and tablets because we can reach them at any time and they can work anywhere.\u201d By doing that, companies are benefiting in a way that never exist before such as increased employee productivity (They work all the time since they carry their smartphone with them) and better collaboration (They collaborate with others using their own phone where they can be reached no matter where they are or what time it is). Basically smartphones and tablets helps workers optimize their work efficiency while ensuring business continuity, increasing work productivity, allow workers to work all the time.<\/p>\n
An analyst wrote: \u201cToday more workers like to use their own mobile devices (Smartphones and Tablets) since they are more familiar with them which making them more productive. More people are using the latest technology so companies benefits from the latest features. (83% of Apple users switch to new iPhone phone every two years.) Since they have chosen their own device rather than what company wants them to use, they do not have to carry multiple devices. By shifting costs to the workers and let them buy their own device and pay for usage and data services companies save a lot of money.
