The future is Cloud Computing<\/p>\n

Cloud computing is an approach of providing computing resources such as applications, storage, networking, and development in a \u201cstandardized format\u201d provided by a vendor. For example, if you have a smartphone, you may store phone numbers, addresses, music, photos, videos, and information in there but smartphones have limited memory. A better solution is to store them \u201cin the cloud\u201d which give you unlimited storage place. If you store everything in your phone, what happens if you lose your phone? What happen if someone steal your phone, they will have all your information, pictures, addresses etc. that is why by storing in the cloud, you can retrieve them and not losing them. The same thing also applies to computers, tablets when people need a lot of storage space and by storing everything in the cloud is becoming more popular than ever.<\/p>\n

Today most telecommunication companies are moving quickly into cloud computing service that allows customers to store their personal things there (Of course, they rent storage space and customers pay for how much they use.). Telecommunication companies will backed up all data stored on your smartphone, laptops or tablet in the cloud and make it available anywhere you can access the Internet. Even when you upgrade to a new phone or change your laptops, all of your information will automatically be available for you from the cloud. A key feature of a cloud computing storage is that it provides a flexible space that you can use just the amount of storage that you want, so you only pay for on a per-unit basis.<\/p>\n

When Microsoft started in 1975, Bill Gates\u2019s vision is to put a personal computer in every desk; every home and all of them are using Microsoft\u2019s operating system. Today with the new leadership of Satya Nadella, its new vision is \u201cCloud First, Mobile First\u201d where all future businesses will be refocusing to mobility and cloud computing. Microsoft has transformed itself from selling software as products to selling software as a services and this is the most radical changes that will have significant impact to the industry.<\/p>\n

Last month, Microsoft announced that all versions of Windows, including PC, tablet and phone versions, would be available for no charge to manufacturers of devices with a screen of less than 9 inches. This is a major challenge to Google\u2019s Android and Apple\u2019s IOS operating system for mobile devices. It is now much cheaper to manufacture a Windows phone or tablet than an Android one. Microsoft also made many of its developer tools as open-source, like its C# and .Net platforms, and made it easier to develop Apps between all Microsoft devices (PC, tablet, phone, Xbox). This has gained a lot of support in the developers all over the world and puts Microsoft in a stronger position to compete with Google and Apple.<\/p>\n

Of course by not charging Window fees on small devices, Microsoft is trying to catch up with both Apple and Google in the mobile platform domination. Being able to manufacture Windows mobile devices without have to pay license fees will increase the number of mobile devices on the market. This will encourage local mobile manufacturing in China, India, Africa and South America to develop Window smartphones and Tablets using Window instead of Google\u2019s Android. Many people was wondering why Microsoft is giving away their software and not charging money? How will they make money? The answer is simple: By having more devices using Window platform, users will have to store everything in cloud computing using Window platform (Microsoft\u2019s Azure platform) and more cloud computing companies will have to \u201cstandardize\u201d their platform with Microsoft software which means Microsoft will retain its strong position in the competitive market.<\/p>\n

The transformation of a major company like Microsoft from products to services is a signal that the technology market is changing fast and to grow, every company must change its strategy and its vision on what the future will be and their role within in. That is why Microsoft chose Satya Nadella, the person who is responsible for managing the \u201cAzure cloud computing\u201d in the company with his vision \u201cCloud First, Mobile First\u201d.
