When you are unemployed<\/p>\n

A student wrote to me: \u201cI graduated last year but could not find a job. I have put a lot of efforts for nine months but no job and I am losing hope. I feel very bad when I see how hard my parents still have to work to support me and my brothers who are still in school. What can I do? Please help.<\/p>\n

Answer: The most important thing to do while you are unemployed is to look for job. But searching for job should not be the ONLY activity because no one can look for a job 40 hours a week; you also need to do things that inspire you to build your confident as well as improve your chance of employment. Since you do not tell me what field you are studying in, it is difficult for me to give you detail on what to do but here are few things that you can do:<\/p>\n

Volunteer for a charity:\u00a0 Doing something good for others is good for society and good for you. It will give you a reason to get out and do something positively. You never know whom you might meet who may be able to help you.<\/p>\n

Learn a foreign language. Being able to speak a foreign language is a good thing in this globalized world. This may be the time to learn or improve your English or Japanese. Having a second language is a useful skill in all aspects of life. If you cannot afford to go to a language school, you can learn it from the Internet where there are many websites teaching foreign languages; you may want to find some foreigners who wants to learn your language and do a conversation exchange.<\/p>\n

Learn a new job-related skill: If you can afford it, this is a time to take a short course or certification class to improve your skills. If you cannot pay, consider taking a class from the Internet such as You Tube or Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) where you learn English as well as some subjects that may help you to develop new skills.<\/p>\n

Help teach a class. Many teachers would like to have someone volunteer to help them tutoring students. Not only can this be a very satisfying works but it also help on your resume.<\/p>\n

You should be active as these things are easy to do and it will keep your spirit up rather than just stay home and feel bitter.\u00a0 Just choose one activity that you feel comfortable and do it. When you go to job interviews, you will have something to say rather than \u201cI just stay home and wait for opportunity to come.\u201d You are young so you should be active and find some interesting things to do when you still have time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
