Please advise.”

Answer: As I have written in previous blog, the best field of study for college women is whatever they select to meet their education goals. Since there is a shortage of Information Technology (IT) skilled people and there are more jobs opening with high salary all over the world, this is a good reason for women to study IT in college. I think Computer Science, Software Engineering, and Information System Management are all good choice for women.

Most IT works require creative thinking and women are naturally creative thinkers. Most of male students often think within a logical framework which usually not very creative. In contrast, female students always come up with amazing solution that most people would not even think of. They solve problem differently than men and often very effective. Women naturally have a different perspective on life (More caring, more empathy etc.) that often lead to unusual problem solving ideas and when these skills are applied to information technology, many women will become innovators.

Most IT works require teamwork and women have natural teamwork skills. Most men prefer to work alone and try to solve problem by themselves but women rarely work alone but always in team. They communicate frequently, share information with each other and always support each other. Four or five brains are always better than one that is why a team of women always be able to come up with better solutions, faster and more efficient.

Most IT works require a foreign language skills and women have natural language skills. Men do not like to learn language and if they have to, most prefer to focus on read and write but not speaking. Most men do not speak well but women are great in learning foreign languages, some even learn two or three at the same time. They read well and often read more than men; they write well and always in perfect sentences, and most speak very well as communication is so natural to them.

Most IT works require doing several things at once and women are naturally multi-tasking experts. They have learned to do many things with various responsibilities at the same time. (i.e., Women can work and take care of their family and children). If students study information technology, they have to learn to do many things and fulfill multiple roles at the same time. A software developer must write code and test their code. A network specialist has to make sure the network perform well and manage security on a daily basis. A customer support must make sure customers’ needs and done and the team are doing well to meet the needs. A project manager must learn to work well with customers, managers and also team members. Most men are not very good of handle too many things at once and they often get frustrated but women are much better due to their caring nature which allow them to excel at multi-tasking.

Most IT works require people skills and women are naturally good at people skills. They are excellent at understand the needs of customers even in difficult situation. This will help them to enter a work place as business analysts, requirements engineers to help getting requirements for a technical system and build better relationship with customers. Women have more patience than men, they know how to listen, understand customers’ needs, communicate well to ease a customers’ frustration. When team members express their frustration at the confusing language of a new system, women show compassionate professionalism and guide them through the complexity with kindness. This is why women are always being better project managers than men.

If you do not believe me, you may want to look at all the top technology companies, large and small; you will see more women in management positions than men. If you walk into Microsoft, Google, Amazon or Facebook you will see that a majority of project managers are women. The Chief operating officer (COO) of Facebook, the person who manage every activity in this company is a woman – Sheryl Sandberg. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Yahoo, the person who provides the leadership and vision for this company is also a woman – Marissa Mayer. The Chief Executive Officer of HP who manages this largest technology company in Silicon Valley is also a woman – Meg Whitman. The president of Cisco, the largest networking company in the world is also a woman – Padmasree Warrior. The top executive position in Xerox, the person who manages the 40 Billion dollars budget is also a woman – Ursula Burns. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Oracles, who control all financial transaction of this giant company, is also a woman – Safra Catz. The person who manages all marketing and advertising of Google is also a woman – Susan Wojciski. The Chief Financial Officer of Microsoft, the person who manages all financial of this large company is also a woman- Amy Hood. If you think it only happens in the U.S but not in Asia, then you are wrong. The top executive of Huawei, the largest telecommunication in China is also a woman – Sun Yafang. The Chief Executive of the smartphone company HTC is also a woman – Cher Wang. Today there are thousands of women who already occupy top positions of technology companies all over the world. If you think IT is a male-only industry than you are wrong. If you look at numbers of students in U.SCollege today you will be surprised because there are more women than men. In my Information System Management class, more than half of students are women.

I believe women should study Information Technology (IT) NOT because they can but because they are very good at it. I think there is nothing better today for women than information technology and women should seize this opportunity. In this Information Age, IT career provides excellent salaries, technology companies are growing fast and they need more workers, especially people who have both technical skills and soft skills. One reason why so few women in Asia get top jobs is that fewer of them are studying technology than in the West but you could change it and should change it.

Today there is no such thing as “Traditional career for women” anymore as women can do anything, can study anything that they want. Even if your local market may not be growing yet but it will and there will be plenty of opportunities by the time you graduate. Today IT job market is still growing in both local market and global market. If you like technologies, have good foreign language skills, then you are well suited to study information technology. By the way, if you like to travel or working oversea, there are more opportunities than ever before as many countries are changing their immigration laws to allow more skilled workers to come and work. My recommendation for women: “Study technology and change the world.”

Một sinh viên viết: “Em thích blog của thầy “Lĩnh vực tốt nhất cho phụ nữ” và lời khuyên về học Công nghệ thông tin …

[31,30

post-4081","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-cac-van-de-khac","category-hoi-va-dap
["GET
