In a time where jobs in certain areas are difficult to get but there is shortage in others, more graduates are returning to school than ever before. Many of them believe that by invest another sixteen months to two years; it is a better way to boost their career advancement to another level. Industry data reveals that, students with a second degree often did much better than regular students and they also earn 6 to 8 percent more than those with just one baccalaureate degrees. A college professor acknowledged: \u201cThese students are more mature, they know what they want, and they are more focus to learn than others. They know that their future depends on their skills so they study harder and that is why after graduate, most of them are doing well in the industry.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to a 2012 report by the U.S. Center on Education, the decision to return to school and earn a second degree is getting very popular among unemployed graduates. The median salary for someone with a second degree in computer science is $87,000 more than double the $35,499 median for those with a degree in accounting or business. If they continue to a Master\u2019s degree, they can do better as the median salary for a Master\u2019s degree in Computer Science is $110,654 more than triple a median for those with bachelor\u2019s degree in business. In the fastest-growing areas such as information technology, an advanced degree is essential as it allows people to come in at higher level positions.<\/p>\n

Today the earnings gap between people with Information technology degree and others has stretched to its widest level. It is a clear indicator about the high demand of the Information Age. An industry analyst wrote: \u201cNot only does a degree in technology yield much more earnings than before, but a college degree in non-practical field is now worth less. That adds to a widening gap between the rich and the poor as globalization and automation have wiped out many jobs and pushes some people into the poverty level. Few years ago, go to college is encouraged but it depends on what you study. Selecting the right field of study can make a big difference like night and day. Despite their college degrees, students in \u201cnon-practical\u201d areas are doing worse as they will find that it is difficult to get jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Today go to college is NOT enough, students must select the right field of study if they want to have good jobs. Those who study science, technology engineering or math (STEM) are most likely to get jobs that are related to their college degree as compared with others in business, humanity, sociology or history etc. Many college graduates say they regretted not doing more investigate when go to college to better prepare themselves to find a job, such as selecting the right fields of study, getting work experience, studying harder and building soft-skills sooner.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
