Why study technology<\/p>\n

In this Information Age, the best field of study is Information Technology (Computer Science, Software Engineering and Information System Management etc.). Just imagine the world without technologies. There would be no PCs or laptops, no emails, no internet, no mobile phones, no digital cameras, there would be no Microsoft or Google, No Apple or Amazon. There would be no online shopping, no download music or video, no social networking, no iPods, iPhones, Digital cameras, no flat screen TV, no GPS, no Texting, etc.<\/p>\n

Information Technology (IT) changes everything and by study IT you will learn how to change the world. By study IT you can program robots to do things for you; You can write sophisticated software to launch a satellite; you can develop beautiful websites to do online business; you can create a software system to control a factory, or manage financial transactions of a bank; you can chat with thousand people on your Facebook account and many more. By study IT, you will learn how computers connect to the internet, how computers control almost everything and you will also learn how to use technology to improve lives, to drive the economy, to build your company, and to support your society etc. We are living in the world that depends on technologies so it is logical to learn about technology.<\/p>\n

Information technology is new, it is only fifty years old so there will be much more things to be explored and discovered. By studying IT, you will be able to go beyond these daily uses of technology and develop more innovations that will improve the life of everybody on earth. For example, most scientific research is conducted on computers rather than in the laboratories which have led to many new discoveries. Medical doctors are relying on computers to identify diseases and treatments. Medical equipment is being computerized to avoid human errors, and medical doctors can reach rural areas to diagnose and treat patients via telemedicine etc. Contradict to most beliefs that technology is difficult, today more and more people are studying technology than ever before. New programming languages are easier to learn and use; new tools are created to support the learning of technology, and many trainings are available on the internet without have to pay anything. Indeed, technology has changed the way we live, we learn, we work and it has propelled the economy forward into a global economy through its innovation and it will continue to do more in the future so it is logical to study technology.<\/p>\n

However, some students are still thinking that technology is difficult and they must be smart to learn it. The fact is it only took African children who never go to school a few weeks to learn programming in Python and Java. It only took a week for 70s and 80s years old people to learn computers so they can \u201cSkype\u201d and talk to their grandchildren who live in another cities or using smartphone to text their doctors to ask questions. Today technology is easier to learn than forty or fifty years ago. When I was in school, programming languages were FORTRAN, COBOL and Assembly and you must learn all three because each computer and application requires different language. Today students learn Java and C++ and they can program almost everything. When I was in school, only few companies and universities had computers, today computers are everywhere, in every home, and almost everybody have a computer in their pocket.<\/p>\n

Is computer science difficult? If an African child who never goes to school can learn to program in few weeks, why can\u2019t you? Is software engineering difficult? If 80 years old person can navigate several websites to find what he wanted why can\u2019t you? Is Information System Management difficult? If a third of people on earth are using smartphones to buy or sell things online why can\u2019t you? It is really the problem of your mind. If you think technology is difficult than you will not learn it but if you think you can do it, than it is easy. If you are not sure, look at millions of people who are working on these jobs and ask: \u201cAre they smarter than me? Why they can do it and not me?<\/p>\n

Basically, in this Information age, it would be impossible without technology. Whether you are studying business, medicine, arts, music, philosophy, sociology or history \u2013 all of them are beginning to apply information technology in their learning. Wherever you stay home or travel oversea, you must know about technology because it is becoming the foundation of many things in this modern world, from airlines and financial transactions to buy and sell things on line etc. Today technology is a necessary that everyone must know and it is logical to study it as it offers excellent prospects for graduates.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
