The future is mobility<\/p>\n

According to the 2013 industry study, when it comes to the adoption of new technologies such as mobile, social networks, cloud computing, security and big data, more than half of companies are not prepared. The study found that many are not yet ready although they do see value in the new technologies for their business. Their executives admitted that they cannot take advantage of those technologies because they do not have the right skills to deal with them. Of those technologies, mobility has the highest priority and everybody recognize that mobile platforms such as Android, IOS and Window 8 will be the key for all future application works. Cloud computing and Big data are considered to be the next important things.<\/p>\n

The study noted that without adopting these technologies quickly, companies will lose their advantages to competitors and some may not even survive. Even though adopting new technologies is essential to business success, companies often resist due to their managers do not want to change. To most people, the need to change is too risky to their careers as they are comfortable with the current situation. Some afraid that by adopting new technologies, their jobs may be replaced by younger workers who are familiar with technologies than them. Others believe that new technologies work so efficient and could cause them to lose their jobs. An industry analyst wrote: \u201cFor workers who are in their 20s and 30s, the change will have minimum impact and most are welcoming new technology. However to workers who are in their 40s and 50s, all are all afraid of any change as it could mean their job. Many of them are in high positions but no longer productive and they want to hang on to their job as long as possible. They do not want any change.\u201d<\/p>\n

To bring in new technology also requires eliminating functional groups and adopting effective processes across company because all processes must be standardized across all business units (i.e. operation, marketing, sales, facilities, etc.) that mean all groups must cooperate fully and share information quickly to get things moving fast. However, this will make many managers feel uncomfortable since they used to do things on their own way and keep information within their own function. By sharing and collaborate, some may feel threaten or even losing control.<\/p>\n

The study noted that mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets will change the way people works and interacts. The new way to do business today is to keep all applications in the clouds and deliver them to workers who can live and work anywhere. Workers can access to company applications, data etc. from anyplace even at home so they do not have to go to work and company can save money by not have to build new facilities and offices which increase profits. With this fully integrated mobility systems, company can deliver products and services with greater flexibility. Additionally, it also allows users to rapidly address business requirements quickly as they also contact company via their mobile devices so company can meet business goals, improve customer satisfaction, expand competitiveness, and increase profitability.<\/p>\n

Among mobile platforms, competition is getting fierce as Samsung has quickly surged ahead as the leader in sale volumes but it has not been able to challenge Apple in terms of profitability yet. At the same time, Microsoft brought Nokia and decides to tie its mobile platform to Windows which signal that mobile will be the prefer platform for the future. The study predicted that most future applications will be developed for mobile platforms instead of personal computer and recommended that schools to teach mobile application development using IOS, Androids and Window 8. However phones and tablets are not to be the only things because the study also noted that the future also includes wearable computers, and other new types of gadgets such as Google\u2019s Glass and Samsung\u2019s watches.
