A student write to me: \u201cI am sorry that I did not know about your blog until it is too late. I am a second year college student studying business administration. I wish that I knew about your blog than I would select Software Engineering or Information System Management. Is it possible to switch field of study or is it too late? Please help.\u201d<\/p>\n

Answer: It is NEVER too late to change your field of study. If you really want something, just do it. If you want to study software engineering, study software engineering. If you want to study Information System Management, just take those classes. Do NOT feel sorry as you are still in school and it is NOT too late for a second year student to change your field of study. If you really want to do something, just make up your mind and do it. I have students who switched from business to computer science and some from computer science to business every year.<\/p>\n

We are all capable of accomplishing something if we just commit to do it. When I hear someone say \u201cI really want to do something\u201d I always ask \u201cWho is stopping you?\u201d There are millions of people who are thinking about what to do with their careers but few have taken any action because they do not have the courage and the commitment. What happen if you do not have a job after graduated? What would you do? Would you continue to say \u201cI wish I study this or that?\u201d or would you go back to school and study it? Anyone can go back to school and learn something if they want it. I have several \u201colder\u201d students in my courses every year, some have worked for five or ten years but as their careers get to the end, they return to school to learn new things and start a new career. You need to figure out what you want, make up your mind to do it, and put in the effort to achieve it.<\/p>\n

If it is worth doing, you have to make decision and move forward. Do NOT complain, do NOT regret, there is nothing as \u201ctoo late\u201d. In your educational journey, obstacles are inevitable but if you determine, you will overcome them. If you hesitate and do not have the courage, you will get stuck in the situation of NOT doing anything and you will spend the whole life regretting and feel sorry for yourself.<\/p>\n

I often tell my students: \u201cIf you can write one line of code a day perfectly, you will complete a perfect program in a month and within a few years you can write thousand line of code perfectly. If you start something you should also finish it. There is nothing that you cannot do, if you put the effort in.\u201d<\/p>\n
