Today many companies are using agile method to deliver solution faster and more efficiently. By deliver products quickly they often gain market advantages over others who are still using traditional models. In this fast pace business, it is obvious that accelerated development cycles, increased skills diversity, and strong teaming have great impact on how company can achieve business success.<\/p>\n<p>In the past, Information Technology (IT) group and business group operated as separate areas and it is difficult for people who work in one area to cross over to the other. Today IT is no longer the supporting role but strategic role which means there is a need for technical people to learn more about business so they can help improve the company operation. The fact is recently, more IT workers are becoming business managers, product managers and business leaders because they understand not only the technology aspect but also the dynamics of working in a fast pace business with global connected market.<\/p>\n<p>In the past managers are promoted based on years of working and experiences. Today managers are promoted based on their ability to learn new things and their looking forward attitude. It does not matter what policy or procedures you use to manage a project or a company, what important is how much have you learned and how effective you adjust your skills to adapt to the new situation because everything is a learning opportunity. Some managers who have working for many years often get into a \u201cbad habit\u201d of stop learning but depend on their experience but experience is the past and what happen now is something new. Many managers forget that in this information age, things are changing fast and by not keeping up, not learning new things, they will be left behind.<\/p>\n<p>In the past, managers often manage by consensus and decisions are often made in meetings. Today managing by meeting is the least productive activity and often not effective. By go to meeting, people would look busy, act busy but often do not accomplish much. In traditional meeting, people would talk but do not act as they are waiting for the leader to make decision. Today managers make decision based on data collected from business intelligent report to response quickly to what happen in the market. With Big Data analytics, managers can predict what will happen and make decision before thing happens and gain competitive advantage.<\/p>\n<p>In the past managers often sit in office and read reports to make decision but over relying on reports could be the worst thing as not all reports are accurate. Today managers must get out of the office to talk to workers, customers, users, and suppliers to understand their needs, aware of market trends as well as technology trends and learn as much as they can. They must learn fast as things are changing quickly.<\/p>\n<p>No matter who you are, what you do, please take the time to read more, learn more and make sure that you always ready to learn new things. Then, make sure you share your learning on to the rest of the team when you work with them.
