Today more people are using computer, whether it is a desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. Computers are becoming more important to everything people do and more people are relying on computing technology than ever before. That is why Information Technology (IT) is the fastest growing field in the 21st<\/sup>\u00a0century and the best career any young people can have. Today programming skill is becoming as important as reading and writing skills, and writing code is the most practical thing college students must learn.<\/p>\n

Recently many U.S. universities are requiring students to take the \u201cIntroduction to Computer Science\u201d course as part of their overall education; some even requires students to complete a full year of computing courses, including programming in Java and Python. As a result, the number of students enrolls in information technology fields (Computer Science, Software Engineering and Information System Management etc.) are increasing more than ever before. A second year student said: \u201cWe think computer field is difficult but after taking few courses in computer we realize that it is not that difficult at all. As we understand the application of information technology and the important of it to our society, some of us decide to study Computer Science; others switch to Information System Management or Software Engineering. With the shortage of computing skilled workers, we have seen many graduates get good offers at Google, Facebook, Twitter and Amazon. Today Silicon Valley has more appeal to college graduates than Wall Street. With millions of business graduates could not get job, study Computer Science or Software Engineer has become the best careers students could get.\u201d Another student added: “Look at all the big banks and financial companies in Wall Street; they are still laying off people. Look at Europe and Asia, banking and financial companies are having problems with so many of them are closing down and people are losing jobs. The good time of finance, stock market, and banking is over. The economy today is depending more on information technology. All the investments in the world are pouring into technology companies such as Apple, Google and Facebook. The future is in technology and in this competitive world students must begin to learn computer skills as early as high school in order to meet the needs of this new economy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Students who do not plan to study information technology can still benefit from having some knowledge of computer because computer is the fundamental of many things people do today. As you are using smartphone, it is really a small computer in your hand; as you are searching information on the web, you are actually using a computer. Regardless what field of study that you select, you need to have knowledge of computer. Computing technology is similar to arithmetic that you learn in elementary school, it is a basic for logical thinking because today computers are everywhere and everybody should know something about it.<\/p>\n

Few month ago, Harvard Business Review wrote that the best job of the 21st<\/sup>\u00a0century is NOT medical, music or movie but in computer field. It listed the number one job in the world as \u201cData scientists\u201d, the people who can write computer code and analyze the power of big data to come up with innovative ways to add business advantage to companies. According to Wall Street analysis, IT is a better investment than a medical doctor, pharmacist, or dentist as that they only need four years in college but making similar salary. IT people even make more money than banker, stock broker, and financial advisor because currently the demand outstrips the supply, allowing IT workers to command a bigger paycheck and stock options. IT industry reports that there are hundred thousands of jobs waiting for graduates in the Silicon Valley area alone. A college career advisor comments: \u201cThis is the best time to study information technology because there are more jobs than applicants. Almost every graduate have good offer and the demand is still very high at least in the next five years.
