Ph\u1ea7n c\u00f2n l\u1ea1i nh\u1eefng sinh vi\u00ean kh\u00f4ng n\u00f3i ti\u1ebfng Anh s\u1ebd v\u1eabn ph\u1ea3i tham d\u1ef1 \u0111\u1ea1i h\u1ecdc d\u1ea1y trong ti\u1ebfng m\u1eb9 \u0111\u1ebb c\u1ee7a h\u1ecd. The new education systen part 2<\/p>\n

To some people, Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) is a “revolution” in college education that may disrupt the traditional education. Although online courses have been around for many years but until 2011 when Sebastian Thrun and Peter Norvig of StanfordUniversity offered an online courses in Machine learning (artificial intelligence) with 160,000 students enrolled, the entire education system was shaken up.<\/p>\n

It began with a rumor that Google needed skilled workers in Machine Learning (Artificial Intelligence) but could not find enough of them so it will hire best students who complete this online course. Google confirmed that it actually funded the online course based on its needs and Norvig is Google’s director of research, and Thrun is responsible for GoogleX, which created the self-driving car and the Google Glass wearable computer. When two top Stanford professors also work for Google created courses online, many people took notice. The term \u201cMassive Online\u201d was created as other Harvard professors began to put their courses online with thousands of students enrolled; the MOOCs movement exploded and started an education revolution<\/p>\n

Since MOOCs are opened to all people without charging anything, it attracts million of students from all over the world. Attendance may be college students, high school students, university faculties, as well as working people who want to learn new skills. When so many students were enthusiastic about this approach of \u201cEducation for all\u201d, traditional education leaders began to worry about \u201cThe best education program\u201d taught by \u201cThe best professors in the field\u201d but without charging money and open for everyone. There are many debates about the MOOCs approach, some like it and some hate it but everybody agrees that MOOC will change the education system significantly.<\/p>\n

Currently MOOCs does not offer degree when traditional universities offer college degree but the question is what will happen if in the future when MOOC may offer college degree? What will happen if MOOCs offers the skills that industry needs and offer degree? An education analyst laments: \u201cIf it happens, it will be the end of traditional education and a victory for the industry and the students.\u201d He also goes further and predicts: \u201cIn that case, most universities will bankrupt as there will be fewer students who attend traditional university but most will go to study MOOCs. There will be massive unemployment among college professors because they will not be able to compete with top global professors who can teach hundred thousands of students.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another analyst disputes that notion: \u201cCurrently most MOOC courses are taught in English which will only benefit English speaking students. The rest of non-English speaking students will still have to attend universities that taught in their native languages. MOOCs cannot compete for these students.\u201dOther analyst agreed: \u201cThe problems confronting the education system are complex. There is no easy fix, by giving online courses that meet the need of the industry is only a temporary solution but it will not solve the problems. The goal of education is not about skills but also about developing knowledgeable, responsible, and mature adults in which MOOC cannot solve.\u201d<\/p>\n

An education analyst predicts: \u201cToday MOOCs will compete with many online universities first. In the near future many online universities will go out of business because why pay to study online when you can get an online education taught by top professors from top schools without paying anything? Only when these online universities are gone, then MOOC may compete with traditional universities but it will not happen soon.\u201d He advises: \u201cTraditional universities must change quickly by focus on fewer areas, emphasizes on knowledge and skills that industry needs and develops skills workers to compete with MOOCs in order to survive, if they do not then they will face the same situation as the online universities. MOOCs may not destroy traditional universities but it will force them to change.\u201d He also note that in the first six months of 2013, several online universities were closed due to lack of students and many traditional universities began to look seriously into upgrade their training programs.<\/p>\n

In February 2013 the American Council on Education recommended that its members accept credit from MOOC courses and proposed that MOOCs being recognized as an official university\u2019s courses but many universities whose faculties developed MOOC courses disagreed because they are still making money from regular students. However the proposal is hailed by many companies as the right direction in education. Many large company executives said they are investing in MOOCs as these courses support their needs of developing skilled workers. Among them are Bill Gates (Microsoft), Sergey Brin, Larry Page, Eric Schmidt (Google) who praised the efforts of universities such as Stanford, Harvard, MIT, Univ. of Pennsylvania, Univ. Texas at Austin, Univ. California at Berkeley to develop courses for MOOC. Bill Gates told newspapers that he told his children to take courses at Khan Academy and funded this school to develop more courses in science, math and technology.<\/p>\n

Whether MOOC will change traditional education or not is still being debated but in the past few months some MOOC courses began to offer certificates and many companies announced that they will consider job applicants with MOOC certificates instead of degrees. As the MOOC movement is still evolving and changing fast but each month, there is new announcement about more professors joining MOOC and more companies are supporting MOOC. A professor concluded: \u201cIt is just a matter of time; the entire global education system will be disrupted. If you do not change fast, you will be eliminated and it is likely that the traditional education system that exists for thousand years will be replaced by innovation and technology.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
