C\u00e1ch nh\u00ecn c\u1ee7a t\u00f4i l\u00e0 ch\u00fang ta c\u1ea7n chuy\u00ean ch\u00fa h\u01a1n khi khuy\u00ean sinh vi\u00ean v\u1ec1 ngh\u1ec1 nghi\u1ec7p STEM.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Ng\u00e0y nay c\u00f3 thi\u1ebfu h\u1ee5t k\u0129 n\u0103ng c\u00f4ng ngh\u1ec7 th\u00f4ng tin (NTT) tr\u1ea7m tr\u1ecdng tr\u00ean kh\u1eafp th\u1ebf gi\u1edbi. Kh\u1ea3o c\u1ee9u c\u00f4ng nghi\u1ec7p d\u1ef1 b\u00e1o r\u1eb1ng s\u1ebd c\u00f3 14.6 tri\u1ec7u vi\u1ec7c l\u00e0m cho c\u00f4ng nh\u00e2n CNTT trong m\u01b0\u1eddi n\u0103m t\u1edbi nh\u01b0ng ch\u1ec9 6.2 tri\u1ec7u ng\u01b0\u1eddi t\u1ed1t nghi\u1ec7p r\u00f3t v\u00e0o nh\u1eefng vi\u1ec7c l\u00e0m \u0111\u00f3 (D\u1eef li\u1ec7u 2012). M\u00f4n kh\u00e1c v\u1ec1 nh\u1eadp m\u00f4n l\u1eadp tr\u00ecnh trong Visual Basic hay Java c\u00f3 th\u1ec3 cho h\u1ecd \u00fd t\u01b0\u1edfng v\u1ec1 \u0111i\u1ec1u m\u00e1y t\u00ednh c\u00f3 th\u1ec3 l\u00e0m v\u00e0 khuy\u1ebfn kh\u00edch h\u1ecd kh\u00e1m ph\u00e1 \u0111am m\u00ea v\u1ec1 n\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p>T\u00f4i ngh\u0129 \u0111i\u1ec1u quan tr\u1ecdng l\u00e0 d\u1ea1y CNTT c\u01a1 s\u1edf cho m\u1ecdi h\u1ecdc sinh ph\u1ed5 th\u00f4ng. C\u00f3 tri th\u1ee9c v\u1ec1 c\u00f4ng ngh\u1ec7 l\u00e0 b\u1ea3n ch\u1ea5t \u0111\u1ec3 trang b\u1ecb cho h\u1ecdc sinh c\u00e1c k\u0129 n\u0103ng c\u1ee7a th\u1ebf k\u1ec9 21. However STEM is a very broad area with many fields of study. Having more students to study STEM is very good for the future but it may NOT solve the unemployment among college graduates today. There are several fields of study in STEM that require advanced degree such as Master and Ph.D to get jobs so encourage students to study STEM may have much lesser impact on the economy than people may think. My view is we need to be more specific when advising student on STEM careers.<\/p>\n<p>Today there is a critical Information Technology (IT) skills shortage all over the world. Industry study predicts that there will be 14.6 million jobs globally for IT workers over the next ten years but only 6.2 million graduates to fill those jobs (2012 Data). Without proper action, the shortage of IT skilled workers will continue for another decade. That is why it is important to promote and encourage more students to study IT and it must start with few basic classes in High School such as \u201cIntroduction to Information Technology\u201d to explain the application of technology in business, manufacturing, and government etc. so high school students can see what IT can do and what types of career they can get if they study IT in college. Another course of introduction to programming in Visual Basic or Java could give them an idea about what computer can do and encourage them to discover a passion for it.<\/p>\n<p>I think it is important to teach basic IT to every high school students. Having knowledge of technology is essential for equipping students with 21st century skills. As the world continues to getting \u201csmaller and flatter\u201d with the Internet, the use of mobile devices (Smartphones, tablets) has become so essential to our lives that many people could not imagine life without it. Over the next five years, the sale of smartphone is expected to surpass the seven billion mark, which is roughly the equivalent of the world&#8217;s population. There is no question that mobile has changed everything and will continue to impact every household from big cities to remote villages. The basics are in place to support the &#8220;connected classroom&#8221; of the 21st century. The popularity of broadband Internet combined with mobile technology could bring all connection to deliver all kinds of education and experiences needed to improve current education to everybody, regardless where they live.<\/p>\n<p>As educators, we have the opportunity and the responsibility to improve the way young people learn, making their experience more interactive, and extending learning outside the boundaries of textbooks and blackboards. It is possible to have high school students watch a scientific experiments being conducted via YouTube. It is possible for students to even take classes on line instead of travel several kilometers just to go to school from remote villages. With technology, education can open many possibilities to disadvantaged students who live in rural areas and connect them to the \u201cFlat world\u201d. We need to educate the next generation of software developers, scientists, inventors, engineers, and entrepreneurs for our society.<\/p>\n<p>Basically, we need more people who study IT (Computer Science, Software Engineering and Information Systems Management) to build a high skilled workforce. The goal is by getting more high school students to know about IT will help them to make informed decision on their careers. Today there is very little information about IT in high schools but there are many misinformations such as IT is difficult, or IT students are mostly \u201cGeeks\u201d that spend all day in front of a computer etc. Many students do NOT know what IT is and what it can do beside people who writing code. They need to be educated that IT is part of everything happens in our daily lives, from the TV we watch, the music we listen to, the ways we do business and all the classes that we can take online. Having IT knowledge is a part of the necessary skills for an educated person in the 21st century just like reading and writing was required skills a hundred year ago. IT works can open endless possibilities, and provide highly rewarding career as it is among the highest paid jobs, even for entry level position.
