Finding jobs<\/p>\n

I have received several emails from students citing the financial crisis and the impact on the job market. Some students told me that they could not find works after several weeks of looking and many seemed desperate and wanted to give up. So I decide to investigate the job market myself because according to my research at Carnegie Mellon, there is high demand for software professionals. I used the internet to go to Dice.com where many jobs are listed and within few minutes found over 40,000 software jobs listed. I reviewed the salary offered and calculate the average of all jobs listed. As a software researcher, I contacted some companies that are hiring for more specific on the jobs that they really need. Most companies told me that they are having difficulty time to find good software engineers, especially in particular areas. Most do not hire programmers but prefer software engineer who understand the disciplines and the process. They also told me that they are outsourced many projects to India, China and will continue to outsource more in the future to reduce their costs. With globalization and the financial crisis, they will have to outsource more, not less. Several managers stated that if they can find highly skilled workers, anywhere they do not mind to bring them here to work or outsource to wherever they can find good software engineer.<\/p>\n

Following is my findings (I listed in my Blog at Carnegie Mellon and also share with other friends). According to this findings, I can confidently conclude that there are plenty of software jobs available in the U.S and other countries (India, China) even during this financial crisis.<\/p>\n

1) Boston, Massachusetts: Available software jobs: 1,902 listed. Average salary for software engineer: $92,630.<\/p>\n

2) San Jose, California:\u00a0 Available software jobs: 2,534 listed. Average salary for software engineer (Security Specialist) $83,842.<\/p>\n

3) Los Angeles, California Available software jobs: 2,022 listed. Average salary for software engineer (computer\/network): $62,302.<\/p>\n

4) Dallas, Texas: Available software jobs: 1,451 listed, Average salary for software engineer (computer networking): $88,327.<\/p>\n

5) Seattle, Washington: Available software jobs: 1,195 listed, Average salary for software engineer (Database administrator): $73,716.<\/p>\n

6) New York\/New Jersey: Available software jobs: 5,341 listed. Average salary for systems engineer (computer networking)$69,700<\/p>\n

7) Washington D.C.\/Baltimore:\u00a0 Available software jobs: 6,817 listed. Average salary for software engineer: $92,028<\/p>\n

I do not know why students could not find works when within half an hour, I could come up with so many job openings on the internet. In my opinion, if you do not seriously looking for job then you will not find any.
