H\u1ecd kh\u00f4ng c\u1eadp nh\u1eadt tri th\u1ee9c c\u1ee7a m\u00ecnh v\u00e0 c\u1ea7n c\u1eadp nh\u1eadt qua \u0111\u00e0o t\u1ea1o,&#8221; Rajdeep Sahrawat, ph\u00f3 ch\u1ee7 t\u1ecbch NASSCOM n\u00f3i.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;-English version&#8212;-<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Skill Building in the Indian IT Industry<\/p>\n<p>The 2008 NASSCOM-McKinsey Report indicate that, each year Indian Universities graduate more than three million students with half majoring in engineers and computer science, only a very small percentage are directly employable by the industry. Only 15 &#8211; 25 per cent are estimated to be suitable for employment in the IT industry. This issue can only be explained by the fact that Indian education system is inadequate and does not ensure quality education for the country&#8217;s population. The situation is made worse by the absence of relevant and updated curriculum that takes into account the requirements of the industry and prepares students accordingly. Professor Sadagopan, Founder of the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) in Bangalore believe that skills shortages are a multi-pronged problem for the IT industry, and a result of low investment by the Indian government in producing employable people. &#8220;India has not invested in skills development. We still do not have &#8216;fair&#8217; private investment in education, which has led to &#8216;unfair&#8217; state academies monopolizing in skills development and achieving little,&#8221; the Professor comments. The urgent need is for the government to create an enabling environment<\/p>\n<p>where high quality, independent, private universities can come up, grow, thrive and excel.<\/p>\n<p>Pradeep Bahirwani, Vice President of Wipro Technologies stated that &#8220;quality talent is always in demand in India but not easily found. There are so many fraudulent candidates with phony degrees everywhere. The focus should not on volumes of graduates but the quality of education.&#8221;.With a view to improving the quality of the talent it hires and prevents fraudulent candidates from entering its system, Wipro has kick started a major initiative to weed out students with fradulent claims from bogus training intitutions or student who brought phony degrees from illegitimate vendors.<\/p>\n<p>Ganesh Natarajan, Global CEO, Zensar Technologies agrees that there is serious concern among IT companies over the increasing gap in demand and supply of skilled resources. &#8220;The Indian IT industry, even under current economic conditions, has not stopped hiring. Due to high demand oversea, they continues to hire people regardless of their qualification. This current situation, if not tackled immediately will lead to a breakdown in quality of services and create competitive advantage for China, Vietnam, and the Philippines to challenge India&#8217;s dominance in the software business.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>However, companies like TCS, Infosys have not been challenged by the issue. Nandita Gurjar, Vice president of Infosys Technologies commented &#8220;We have not faced any problem of talent yet. In fact, we received 1.3 million resumes but we only hired about 25,000 because we only select candidates from top universities and universities that has the most current curricula. We are taking steps to address the bad education situation by create our own university where in the future we can select the best students to our companies. We always keep in mind the quality of our labor today and future demand. Our program prepares graduates in subjects such as software engineering using Infosys&#8217;s process to apply and integrate their learning to practical situations. It enables students to improve their professional skills to effectively compete in the IT marketplace with special emphasis on teamwork, project management, cross-functional networking and effective communication.<\/p>\n<p>NASSCOM has prepared a National Faculty Development Program, to be submitted to the government to address the quality of teachers in India education systems. &#8220;The key is teachers need special training to update their knowledge in emerging technology areas. As teachers skills are obsolete, quality of teaching is affected in the majority of the universities of the country. Around 15,000 teachers from IT and computer Sciences department, need to be provided special training because most faculty members are not in touch with the industry.
