CMU in China<\/p>\n

Carnegie Mellon\u2019s iCarnegie and iSofStone one of China\u2019s leading outsourcing companies have partnered to open a training institute for IT Professionals in Wuxi, China. The newly established training institute will help Wuxi become a major software outsourcing hub in China. Graduates of the training programs provided by the institute will provide support for China-based IT providers like iSoftStone so that they can better serve global clients who increasingly look to China as a major pillar of their international IT and BPO sourcing strategies. With the initiation of this project, iCarnegie is able to further strengthen its partnership network in Asia, and especially in China where it currently provides academic courses to several software colleges around the country.<\/p>\n

A signing ceremony, with Mr. Weize Yang, Member of the Standing Committee of Jiangsu Provincial CPC Committee, Dr. Mark Kamlet, Carnegie Mellon University Provost, Dr. William Leonard Guttman, iCarnegie Chairman of the Board, Gil Taran, iCarnegie Chief Executive Officer and TW Liu, iSoftStone Chairman & CEO took place in June, 2009 inWuxi.<\/p>\n

iCarnegie\u2019s Director of Training and Development, Norman Bier, traveled to China in to help instructors prepare to teach the Introduction to Software Engineering courses in Wuxi. Bier trained five instructors to deliver the first five courses in the curriculum. He also worked with a team of teaching assistants, who will be assisting the instructors in delivering the program. \u201cThe institute has an enthusiastic and well-prepared teaching team,\u201d said Bier. “The instructors, in particular, have had extensive industry experience that will be particularly valuable for their students.\u201d The iCarnegie Institute will be opening to an inaugural class of 200 students in October. Students who successfully complete the program will receive Carnegie Mellon Certificates in Computer and Software Development.<\/p>\n

CMU is currently in discussion with Russia, Kazakhstan, and Mexico to either open their trainings there or provide training for local instructors to teach the CMU program. In the past several years, CMU has provided similar training in Japan, Korea, Australia and Vietnam.<\/p>\n
