Trend in Banking and Finance industry<\/p>\n

According to an industry report, there is a skills shortage in the business, finance, investment, and insurance industry. Why an industry that had hundred thousands of\u00a0layoffs\u00a0over the past few years and is still in the process of reducing more jobs would claim that it had shortage of skilled people.<\/p>\n

A Wall Street analyst explained: \u201cThe fact is some shortages are self-inflicted. Since the financial crisis, many finance, banking and investing companies have lost some best workers due to so many repeated layoffs. As the morale of workers hurt badly, some left and brought their knowledge with them. People who remain did not know how to solve certain problems because they did not have the deep knowledge. Today as the industry is focusing more on preventing frauds, monitoring uncontrolled trades, reviewing unmanaged insurance policies, and reducing costs, it needs people with a lot of experiences. The industry does not need economists, stock market analysts, accountants, bank tellers anymore and is still reducing these jobs but it needs more regulatory specialists, risk managers, and security specialists to contend with new governments\u2019 rules and regulations. These are jobs that require many years of experience which is difficult to find.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnother fact is the entire field of finance, insurance, and banking is changing quickly with more automation, more computer support systems and technical skills shortage is the result of this change. For many years, finance, investing, banking and insurance industry were relying on IT workers to support and maintained their old computing systems. Top management never considered IT as strategic function so the skills of most IT workers were not clearly defined. Many IT workers did not even have college education, their knowledge were limited to installation, maintenance of existing applications and networks. The changes for more automation requires different skills and knowledge so the industry is replacing IT supports workers with college graduates in Information System Management with better skills.<\/p>\n

An industry officer explained: \u201cAutomation and integration of several systems is turning out to be much more complex than expected. Most banks and finance companies begin to learn that security and legal issues are far more critical than they previously known. These works require workers with significant higher skills than current IT supports people. When they integrated old systems with new Software as a Service (SaaS) applications, many system crashed and created disasters because IT support people did not have the right skills. Many could not even know how to write complex code. They could not understand system architect and integration. They did not know much about security and often relying on vendors and consultants to do that for them. As technology is changing fast, with very limited knowledge and skills due to poor trainings, these people could not keep up. Although some large Banks and Finance companies sent them to retraining but without a proper education, they could not perform the needed works so most of them were lay off and the industry is hiring new IT people with better skills and compete with the other industries for skilled workers and that is why they have shortage.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
