The software outsourcing market continues to change as more countries are entering the competition. According to the consulting firm KPMG, this year China has replaced India as \u201ctop choice\u201d for software outsourcing and it is possible that by 2014, China\u2019s outsourcing market could make $43.9 billion dollars.<\/p>\n

In an interview with The Times of India, KPMG global manager says that while China\u2019s outsourcing capabilities are not as mature as India\u2019s, the growth of China\u2019s outsourcing market is still significant and China is now leading the way. KPMG\u2019s survey found that 42 percent of company executives said their companies have already outsourced to China and 41 percent said they so have plans to outsource there. The survey also indicated that low labor costs and technical skilled developers are key factors that drive sourcing decision but language skill is also another factor, the survey found that if Chinese can improve the language skill better, the market share can be more significant. Of course, Indian outsourcing companies are still doing well based on recent earnings reports. India\u2019s largest outsourcing company TCS said that\u00a0in the first quarter of 2010 theirrevenue had grown by 21 percent to $1.8 billion, while profits were $403 million. The company just signed 10 very large deals worth several billion dollars in the first quarter and is currently pursuing another 15 more large deals.<\/p>\n

The most surprising newcomer is Egypt who aims to become a bigger player in the outsourcing market. According to an article from Reuters earlier this week, Egypt has established strong incentives for foreign companies who want to do business there. The incentives include low cost rental in their high tech parks, some are almost free if foreign company could hire more than 3000 local workers. The government will pay the cost for additional training, if needed by foreign company for any particular skills. Government also pay all public transportation costs for people to go to work in high tech parks, and matching the difference between Egypt’s telecommunications costs and the lowest such costs elsewhere in the world. Foreign companies will not pay taxes for 10 years and free to import and export any products develop within the high tech parks without have to file for permission. Government also reduces paperwork for foreign company who want to invest in the high tech parks, permission can be granted within 3 working days.<\/p>\n

According to the study, Egypt\u2019s outsourcing industry is the fastest growing sectors in history, from million to billion dollars in few years. The Egyptian government understands the benefits of job creation in this lucrative business well. Seven years ago, they issued policy directed all universities to focus on software and adopted several curricula from top universities in the U.S, UK and Europe to replace their archaic education system. Now it seemed that the investment has paid off well as Egypt has plenty of university graduates who are fluent in French, German, Spanish and Italian as well as Arabic and English. Their technical skills match the best graduates in U.S, UK and Europe as they are studying the same curricula and subjected to the same kind of tests and exams. According to several sources, they have more graduates with advanced skills such as design, architect and project management, which are skills mostly needed today by developed countries.<\/p>\n

According to government\u2019s forecast, Egypt \u2018s outsourcing industry is expected to generate $1.5 billion dollars this year, $2.2 billion in revenue by 2013, and $10 billion in 2015. They are expected to create additional 10 million jobs for their economy in the next five years. In addition to the new economy growth, Egyptian government are building several additional high tech parks as the existing parks are begin to fill up to their capacities. One such center just recently opened last month is already being used by Wellesley, Mass.-based Stream Global Services, a BPO that operates call and support centers for such customers as satellite ration station Syrius-XM. According Stream’s chairman, his company intends to expand further in Egypt because of the low cost and much better skills. Stream, which operates in 22 countries, started in Egypt last year with 50 employees and expects to have about 5,000 employees in the next two years.<\/p>\n

Another newcomer to the outsourcing market is Brazil. According to several studies, many U.S companies are looking for a way to bring offshore work a bit closer to home and Brazil is selected instead of India or China because of its closer proximity and similar time zones to the U.S. Of course, Brazilian government is eager for the international business. The Brazilian market for IT work is currently growing at 17 percent a year but could double in a year or so as more companies are coming here. In the past several years, large U.S companies such as IBM, EDS, HP and Accenture have opened facilities in Brazil to take advantage of the skilled resources available here. Even large Indian\u2019s companies such as TCS, Wipro and Infosys also come here as an extension of their companies.<\/p>\n

The biggest market for outsourcing is probably the financial services due to the country\u2019s experience in building robust software to cope with the financial crisis that happened in Brazil in the late 1980s. The second area is ERP work as Brazil has one of the largest concentrations of SAP consultants and developers in the world outside of Germany. Due to a large population of German descent, SAP has been operating in Brazil for years, and local corporations and divisions of multinationals have installed the SAP\u2019s ERP systems there. Today Brazil\u2019s IT outsourcing market is valued at $1.6 billion but it could triple by 2013. However, the cost of doing business in Brazil is much higher than other Asian or African countries but the advantage is the location and cultural affinity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
