Foreign language<\/p>\n

A student wrote to me: \u201cI understand that learning foreign language is important but I am undecided between learning Japanese and English. My teachers encourage me to learn Japanese because my school has many contracts with Japan and it is possible that after graduate, I could work for a Japanese company. Please advice.<\/p>\n

Answer: Having ability in reading and speaking any foreign language, whether it is English, Japanese or Spanish is always good. Today we are living in an increasingly interconnected and globalized world and knowing at least one foreign language is important as it can open and create many opportunities in the global job markets.<\/p>\n

The decision of whether to select one language over the others depends on personal choice and job market situation. In my own opinion, English is the most widely used language in the world, especially in the technology area. It is the primary spoken language in global commerce and is used in many technical textbooks, documents, applications and social media networks and websites. Universities in The U.S, the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore are teaching in English. Several schools in China, Japan, and S. Korea are beginning to use English as the new instruction language instead of their native language. Knowing English opens many employment opportunities in many countries and global companies are expanding into several countries and they also recruit graduates with English skills.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
