In his annual speech to the U.S Congress to reports on the condition of the nation and outline the plan that U.S government want to pursue in the future. President Barack Obama highlighted the potential for job creation in the biotechnology and Information technology fields. He said biotechnology successes is \u201cnew Sputnik moment\u201d to reclaim U.S. scientific and educational superiority in the globalized world. He recalled President John F. Kennedy\u2019s leadership in science and technology after the Soviet Union shocked the United States in 1957 by launching the first satellite \u201cSputnik\u201d into Earth orbit. He promised to fund more biotechnology and information technology education to make sure that the U.S will remain as leader in these fields, saying: \u201cCutting the deficit by cutting investment in education is like reducing the weight of an overloaded aircraft by removing the engine. There may be some things you\u2019ve got to get rid of, but you\u2019ve got to keep the engine.\u201d<\/p>\n

After the speech,\u00a0Carnegie Mellon University President Jared L. Cohon praised the U.S. President’s plan “to win the future” by encourage more innovations in education. He said: “While the U.S. faces intense competition in the global economy, our country has one asset that no other nation has yet duplicated: the capacity of university-based research to launch high-growth companies, As a pioneer in computer science, robotics, cyber-security and biotechnology fields, Carnegie Mellon is at the forefront of job creation through innovation. We support continued investment in biomedical research, biotechnology, information technology and clean energy technology because we know they are proven catalysts for using public investment and converting knowledge, innovation, and expertise into start-ups, entrepreneurship, economic renewal and job growth.”<\/p>\n

In 2009, Carnegie Mellon and the city of Pittsburgh was selected to host the G-20 where twenty head of state meet to discuss the world economy.
