The boy who make multi million dollars<\/p>\n

Last year, I wrote on this blog about Robert Nay, a young boy created games for iPhone. This year, another boy also make the news. Christian Owens is only 16 but already a multi-millionaire. All it took was a self teaching in web design, and a \u00a0hero named Steve Jobs.<\/p>\n

Christian Owens received his first PC computer at seven but instead of play videogames like most of the boys of the same age, he learn C programming from books borrow from library. He likes Steve Jobs so much that he even puts a picture of the Apple computer founder on his desk and determines to do something similar to what Steve Jobs did: \u201cCreate a computer company\u201d. When he was ten, his father brought him a Mac (He insisted on Mac instead of PC). He began to learn web design, again from books borrow from the library. He was so good that his elementary school asked him to build the web site for the school. Many friends also asked him to build websites for them so four years later, he started his first company (2008). It is a website called Mac Bundle Box where he sell computer games that he created for his friends. On the site, people could purchase various Mac OS X applications for a discounted price and for a limited time. Christian negotiated various deals with software developers all over the world in order to receive a discount on their applications. While some applications would normally sell for more money in certain stores, most developers would give him a big discount since he was a kid and sell mostly to young boys who cannot afford the higher prices.<\/p>\n

To encourage sales, Christian gave significant discounts to people who purchased more than ten applications. Of course, many young kids would ask their parents to buy more games so his on-line store became very successful. Christian also learned the skills of another successful software person \u2013 Bill Gates by dedicated a percentage of all sales to charity. Within 2 years (2008 \u2013 2010) the Mac Bundle Box made over one million dollars. No one know that the company only has five employees and all of them were less than 16 years old.<\/p>\n

But Christian did not stop with just one company. He created another called Branchr, which is a pay-per-click advertising company that sends out 300 million advertising brochures a month on well over 17,500 websites, iPhone and Android apps. That company has already made $800,000 in the first year (2010) and employs eight adults, one is his mother to handle accounting since he is not old enough to handle the filing of taxes and all business paperwork (In England, you must be 18 or more to do that). Since most customers of his on-line store are young boys, he know what kind of videogames they like, what kind of iPhone, iPad applications are popular among elementary and high school students. His store was so successful that get the attention of Steve Jobs so the Apple founder called and asked Christian for advice on what applications are hot, what are not among young buyers. Now, Apple managers often come to him for advices, and of course he charged them for consultant fees. To grow the company, Christian already bought another company, and incorporate it into his company.<\/p>\n

In an interview with the BBC, Christian said that his goal is to make one hundred million dollars through Branchr in the next five or ten years. When asking for what advice that he could give to another young boy, he said: “There is no magical formula to business, it takes hard work, determination and the passion to do something great. If Steve Jobs can do it, I can do it too”. However, his mother wants him to go to college.
