A software developer sent me an email asking: \u201cWhat is the difference between Demand management, Requirements management and Change management? I am very confused on these terms. Please help\u201d.<\/p>\n

Answer:\u00a0Demand Management\u00a0is a process to manages Information Technology (IT) demand requests by the company business units from a strategic view. In this process, the Chief Information Officer (CIO) works with other business unit managers to set the priority of all IT services provided according to the IT strategy. The CIO must ensure that business unit users and IT people collaborate efficiently within costs and direction. Each year, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) determine how much money the company should spend on IT to supports the business units. The CIO must ensure that business users understand the services that IT provides to the business are based on a financial budget that cover all IT services, resources requested.<\/p>\n

Requirements Management\u00a0is the process of gathering business, technical, functional requirements for a product or service, usually within the context of a project. The project could be a new product, a web site, a system, or a software application.<\/p>\n

Change Management\u00a0is a process for handling all changes to a project or service to minimize the impact of change-related incidents. Changes are issued either from Incidents management, Problems management or customer\u2019s requests via help desk.<\/p>\n

To keep it simple, all three processes are about business users requesting services from IT unit, with different levels of views. Demand Management is from a strategic view; Requirements is from tactical view and Change management is from operational view.<\/p>\n
