Many students go to college with the same attitude and study habit when they were in highs school. That is a big mistake. The learning skills that you used in high school are not sufficient to guarantee success in college. Because college materials are much more and presented much faster than high school. If you are not prepared, you will be overwhelmed. Therefore, you should make sure that the amount of time you spend studying exceeds the amount of time you spend with friends on other activities. In other words, you must study seriously by devoting the necessary time to achieve success. You should never forget, that the primary reason you are in college is to get an education.<\/p>\n

College is a time of many changes. As you are attending college, you are maturing into an adult but with that you are also responsible for your actions too. One of the key to succeed in college is learning to manage your time to balance between making new friends, joining college activities, and studying. To do that you must set priority and determine which one is more important. I always advise my students to stay ahead by studying often and early. I ask them to read materials before coming to class so we can spend more time for discussion, asking questions and get answers than just listening to a lecture.<\/p>\n

One of the first thing students often hear when they go to college is how easy to \u201cskip class\u201d compared to high school. A few hours spending with friend in coffee shop or play video games is more exciting than sitting in class. This is a big mistake. College courses always proceeds at a fast pace, missing class is a sure way to fall behind. Never consider that the professor will help you like high school teacher. It does not happen. If you fall behind, you will not be able to catch up. Classroom is a place where important information is conveyed to students. Missing class means you miss out on useful information and it could means passing or failing a course.<\/p>\n

Some students think that they can memorize class materials and pass tests. That maybe possible in high school but not college. You cannot cram everything in a short time. First, there are many materials that will overwhelm you. Second students are expected not only to understand the materials given in class, but also to apply the knowledge when answering test questions. Memorization is not the way to study in college, you must understand everything well so you know how to apply it.<\/p>\n

Integrity is an extremely important issue in college. As students, you must avoid any cheating, dishonesty and not getting yourself into such situations. Cheating includes giving, receiving or using dishonesty aids on any school works. Copy your friends\u2019 works is a common things in college. Basically when you cheat on the test, you are cheating yourself. You lose an opportunity to learn something. Please take this seriously, you are going to school to learn and if you are not learning than you need to ask yourself: \u201cWhat are you doing here?\u201d, \u201cWhy do you want to waste your time and your family\u2019s financial?\u201d \u201cWhy do you want to cheat your parents\u2019 expectations of you?\u201d<\/p>\n

College is an exciting time in any young person\u2019s life. You will meet new friends, men or women, and experience new friendships, new activities, both of which will make demands of your time. You must make decision to chose your college lifestyle carefully because with the \u201cFreedom\u201d come \u201cPersonal responsibility\u201d. It is impossible to be a good student, if you are exhausted with all night parties or go to movies every week. If you are tired, it would be difficult to maintain your alertness in class, which mean that you will fail to get the information necessary for your academic success.<\/p>\n

As college students, you have a very bright future ahead but you only have four years to make your dream to become a reality. You only have four years to make your family proud. You only have four years to build a career for your life so please take it seriously because everything else can wait.<\/p>\n
