The high demands areas are in the fields of Information Technology, Biotechnology, and Global marketing. Among them specific positions such as project manager, business analyst, service manager, integration specialist, data administration, security specialist, and global marketing specialist are most sought after due to the high demand. As global business activity increases, companies need IT specialists who can help them manage their IT system and connect it to other systems with strict security and performance. As more companies are expanding their businesses, they need marketing specialist to manage business across borders. The best candidates are those who have both technical skills and soft-skills. Since there are so few people available while every company needs them, there are not enough people available.<\/p>\n<p>The study states that the worker shortage is a problem that will continue to grow. It predicts that, by 2018, the U.S. will need 22 million workers with college degrees, but can only produce 15 million workers. The study points out that almost 90% of all future jobs will require college degrees. With global competition and technology changes, every company must be able to adjust to changes, it requires all workers to be &#8216;learning workers&#8217; who continually improve and update their existing skills when new knowledge emerges and new skills are in demand.<\/p>\n<p>The study finds that even in the deep economic recession and soaring unemployment, jobs go unfilled because of a mismatch between the skills of job applicants and those in demand by employers. A company executive explained: \u201cThis is a mistake of our education system. Schools know what the industry needs but do not encourage students to enroll in better prospective fields. They want to save jobs for professors who teach in areas that they know there are no future. Why study history or sociology knowing that there are no jobs? Why school make it easier for students to study anthropology or geography even they know that there are no demand? They only want to fill their classroom and do not care about students\u2019 future. This shortage has been happened for several years but no one do anything about it. If we outsource works because we cannot find qualified workers than they complain that we are taking the jobs away from our citizen and give to foreigners.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A company owner said: &#8220;I own a software company and we have are having a very hard time find good programmers in general. I want to hire someone who not only know how to program, but understand business and have good communication skills. We build special software for customers, so we must understand our customers\u2019 needs. This is something that most technical people do not seem to understand. They only learn few programming languages and expect to have jobs to sit in front of the computer and code all day. If the job is that simple, I can outsource to China or India for much lesser cost. I need people who can communicate and work with the customers and I cannot find them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A manager said: \u201cFew years ago, you can know just one thing and can get a job. Today you need to know more. You have to be more sophisticated, flexible and have a broad view of the industry. Engineer must know something about the business. Business must know something about technology. It is the \u201ccrossing, the intersecting of several fields\u201d that make you the best candidate for better job.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another manager said: &#8220;We have difficulty for a long time trying to find skilled people for several positions. We are looking for managers who can manage large projects. Believe it or not, software project manager is really hard to find. As soon as we find some good one, they do not stay long. Ninety-nine times out of 100 somebody will give them better offers. There appears to be a large number of people with a small amount of skill in the job market but very few people with lot of experience and good skills.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A company owner complained: &#8220;There are not many people in global marketing. Every students want to study finance or \u00a0management. The business schools have been producing so many finance and management people and in this recession, they cannot find jobs. There are hundred thousands of them looking for work now. Today the trend is global marketing. Marketing encompasses everything from promotion to distribution logistics. A key skill in this field is to generate ideas and oversee projects that yield good results and profit. You must understand foreign languages, good communication skills, good attitudes and willing to travel. Yet, there are many applicants that demand high salaries that have no ability to be creative or drive results.
