U.S open door for more IT workers<\/p>\n

It comes as a great news for many technology workers and skilled professionals. Last Tuesday, the US Congress has just passed a Bill changing the immigration system that allowed a much larger number of highly-skilled people to obtain permanent residence status or ‘green card’ to stay and work in the U.S.<\/p>\n

Currently, the wait for a green card for highly-skilled workers can be many years long. The new Bill called: \u201cThe Fairness for High-Skilled Immigration Act\u201d, which now eliminating the number of visas per country and instituting a first-come, first-served system. It receives overwhelming support in the US House of Representatives and pass with a vote of 389-15. It is expected that it will get through the US Senate quickly. In addition to eliminating the maximum visas per country, it also allows skilled workers bring their family with them by raising the number of family-related green cards from 7% of the to 15%.<\/p>\n

For many years, IT professionals, students with advanced degrees have to apply for the extension of their visas (H1B) and most have to wait for many years. They could not bring family with them and it also creates a lot of stress and issues. The change allows green card applications to be approved on a first-come first served basis, rather than on country quotas is a huge relief for many IT workers and their families.President Barack Obama also favors changing the law to make it easier for foreigners who earn advanced degrees to remain in the U.S. His view is clear. He said: \u201cOthers come here from abroad to study in our colleges and universities. But as soon as they obtain advanced degrees, we send them back home to compete against us. It makes no sense.”It is expected that many skilled workers will apply to work in the U.S and create a \u201cbrain drain\u201d issue in their country.<\/p>\n
