Answer: There are several excellent careers for young people to chose. According to U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics, information technology, medical, and healthcare are best career choices for the next ten years. From the investment point of view, I think information technology (IT) is the best because it only requires four years of college, the salary is good and job prospect is excellent. Today IT skills are needed in almost every country as the world has a critical shortage of IT skills. In the time of mobile apps and cloud computing, these skills are becoming more essential than ever before. According to a global study, in 2010 the world has about three million IT workers. By 2015, the world will need at least five million IT workers and by 2020 the need increases to seven million IT workers. As a result of the rapid employment growth over the next ten years, job prospects for people in IT area should be excellent. Workers with at least a Bachelor\u2018s degree in a information technology related fields (Computer science, Software engineering, and Information system management) would have the best opportunities and very well compensated. (Average salary from $93,000 to $115,000 for entry-level positions in the U.S). In fact, employment of IT fields is projected to increase by 38% over the 2010-2020 periods, which is far faster than all other occupations. This growth is due to the increasing dependence on new technologies, as well as more companies increasing their desire to integrate more technologies to improve the efficiency of their business.<\/p>\n

The Global study is identified three factors: Skills, Experience and Location for all jobs perspectives. Skills are defined as what workers learned in schools. In Information Technology, it is usually depended on the degree of workers (2 year associated degrees or 4 year Bachelors\u2019 degree). If workers do not have the \u201clatest\u201d skills, many companies are willing to retrain them. Experience is defined as the time people perform real-works and many do accept the 6 months in Capstone project as \u201creal work experience\u201d. Location is the local job market as it varies between countries. In developed countries, IT skilled is needed with more jobs than workers. In developing countries, it is changing fast, as demand exceeds supply in some countries. For example, both India and China have a shortage of IT skilled workers but in other the job market is still slow to adapt to the global needs. Some workers in slowly adapting country may find employment a little difficult. However, it will change as with information technology, workers can work online using the internet. In the near future, the \u201cVirtual workers\u201d trend will happen as the critical shortage of skilled workers become more critical all over the world. Some countries are hiring foreign workers and pay to relocate them to their countries. With a changing global economic environment, I think now is a great time to look seriously in IT careers.<\/p>\n

Of course, the choice should be for your children to make. As parents you can only suggest to them but if you to take a look back at 40 years ago, TVs were black and white, telephones were rotary dial and wired but now your children are growing up with flat screen TV with high-definition and 3D images. Phones are wireless with a computer build-in that fit your hand. With each new innovation, there are so many opportunities for technical workers to develop new products and services. Today, Information Technology (IT) is exploding everywhere so a career in IT is not just a good career but also have the best prospect to move up into management and executive levels as the world needs more technological skilled professionals.<\/p>\n
