More IT hiring<\/p>\n

Indian outsourcing service companies are getting ready for more growth this year. The Economic Times of India reports that the big five IT companies, Tata Consultancy Services, Cognizant, Infosys, Wipro, and HCL Technologies are stepping up on their hiring, adding several hundred thousands of new IT workers in India. Within few months, the five companies have hired over 120,000 IT workers compares to just 50,000 in the same period the year before. The reason is previously many Indian companies were still coping with the uncertainty of the global financial crisis and were being cautious about adding more employees. However, recent recovery is a sign that the worst was over and Indian companies expect more business will come their way. It is estimated that for every new IT job created, it also created another additional eight to twelve non-IT jobs in India. With over 120,000 new IT jobs, it is transferred to over a million additional jobs to India\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n

To keep workers from leaving, most companies reward their people with an average increase in salary about 11%. High performance employees also receive a bonus of several thousand dollars. Many Indian companies are beginning to outsource their non-critical works such as coding, testing, and maintenance to nearby countries so they can focus on more lucrative business such as large scale integration, financial and healthcare IT.<\/p>\n

To expand the business globally, Indian IT companies are now opening facilities in both the U.S and Europe but they are having problem finding skilled workers. Last week, the head of Infosys in Europe, B.G Srinivas told European newspapers: \u201cThe biggest problem for us with regard to hiring is that there aren’t enough people who study computer in Europe and the UK. We want to expand our European workforce by 10 per cent, hiring about 5,500 workers but could not find enough workers so we have to hire mathematics and science graduates and train them.\u201d<\/p>\n

The main issue today is the shortage of skilled workers, especially in hot areas such as mobile apps, cloud computing, service management, and system architecture. It is estimated that this shortage will continue for several years as demand is much higher than supply.<\/p>\n
