Education trends 2013- 2023<\/p>\n

The College\u2019s Education Council has issued a guidance to encourage college students to study Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). The council specifically recommends that first year students select computer science, software engineering, information system management and healthcare careers rather than business, marketing, or economics to avoid being unemployed when they graduated.<\/p>\n

The guideline stated: \u201cStudents should study skills that are in high demand because they will help graduates avoid unemployment. According to industry forecast, computer science, software engineering, information technology and healthcare related degrees are the most sought after graduates among hiring companies. The U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics expects that employment for IT graduates will grow 32 percent between 2012 and 2020. The healthcare sector will add about 3 million new jobs in the same period. Regarding other fields of study, it is projected that the current financial recession in Europe will spread to other countries and impacts their local economies. Therefore, first year students who are planning future careers in financial services, stock market trading, banking, marketing, or business administration may be looking for very limited openings by the time they graduate. Although no one can predict what the job market will look like in the next four years but students entering college this fall (2014) could graduate into a job market that is still in recession with most business and finance companies NOT hiring.\u201d<\/p>\n

The council reported that the number of students studying business programs has declined since the financial crisis in 2008. However the number of student studying business in Asia is still attracting a large number until this year. An Analyst explained: \u201cAsian students often do not follow the global trends so they become the latest victims of the financial crisis. When millions of graduates with business degree in U.S and Europe become unemployed, Asian students continue to study business, economics, banking and investing until most of their graduates could not find work. Today you can find a lot of business graduates working as secretaries, clerks, receptionists, or event restaurant waitress in Beijing, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan.<\/p>\n

The council also reported that since 2011, the number of Asian students enrolled in U.S and European business school rapidly decrease by 34%. An Analyst explained: \u201cImmigration laws have made it difficult for foreign graduates to stay and work in the U.S after they finish school. The current immigration reform only allow foreign graduates with degree in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) to obtain special visas or green cards to stay and work while students with degree in other fields must leave immediately which make the study in business and finance uncertain.
