Entering college<\/p>\n

College education gives students the qualifications to get good job and good living as a professional. But it is also a major investment in term of time, money, and efforts. Therefore students should act responsibility for this investment. They should know that it is their time and efforts and their parents\u2019 money that put them in college.<\/p>\n

However, there are students who go to college without thinking about what college education is. They do not care about the sacrifice of their family and enter college unclear about what career they are pursuing. They do not know what education that they want to receive, and how they are going to apply it to advance their career path. They do not even think about the important question: How will this education get them a job? How will this education make them a valuable contributor to society? Instead they go to college to find people who share their interests such as video games, music, dancing etc. Many go to college to explore their personal options. Their path involves entering college without serious selecting any field of study until they make decision about what they want to do with their lives. In fact there is a study that a majority of these undecided students often failed within the first two years. Instead learning some skills, they learned bad habits. Of course, they know that going to parties every week, or play video games all night, will not get them jobs but as long as someone is taking care of them, they do not care. Few years can go by fast, when they realize that students who enter college by the same time with them are now graduating and begin to build their careers and they should get serious about study then it is usually too late. Some follow a \u201ctradition\u201d of blaming the school instead of themselves then stay home and let their parents continue to take care of them. Some will try to find job that keeps them employed until they figure out what they want to do with the rest of their lives. The common issue among these students is without skills, they will not last long in the competitive market. Many will end up to be the type of workers who will go from one job to another every few months as they could not do anything seriously. Some eventually end up involving in crime, or addict to illegal drugs.<\/p>\n

I have seen students who spend their parents\u2019 money without knowing what they are spending on and how it will benefit them in the future. It is difficult to justify the amount of money and time that they are wasting in schools. Without a clear career path, without a clear direction, it is hard to know that they have anything valuable to offer. Their behavior reflects the financial irresponsibility that is seen in many countries today. But the wasteful of money is not even the main concern. What is most concerning is that students are spending money with no clear concept of its importance. Entering into college as unclear field of study or direction is a thoughtless choice that hurts both the nation\u2019s economy and the students themselves.<\/p>\n

I suggest that students should do more research and prepare their career paths when entering college with a clear direction and financial responsibility. I also suggest that schools to support students to select their fields of study carefully based on the thorough assessment of their capability that can help them to be successful in the future so they can contribute to the future of our society.<\/p>\n
