Learning IT skills on line<\/p>\n

A high school student wrote to me: \u201cIs it possible to get a job in the Information technology (IT) without a college degree. My family is poor and cannot afford to send me to college. I have graduated from high school with good grade but I must help my parents to make enough for a family of seven. I have many brothers and sisters that need help. I am willing to learn whatever necessary to get a good paying job as long as I do not have to pay.”<\/p>\n

Answer: Although it is difficult to find a good paying job without a college degree. However, it is possible to get a job in the Information technology industry without a college degree. Due to the shortage of skilled workers, some companies are willing to hire people with IT skills but do not have a college degree. According to a new industry survey, 42% of company surveyed said that they are willing to hire high school students with IT skills especially for programming and testing jobs. To be more specific, if they are looking for workers who can program mobile applications with knowledge of IOS, Android or Window 8.<\/p>\n

The IT industry often needs people with the latest skills or skills that are difficult to find. What is happening now is the demand is much higher than supply in certain areas as companies cannot hire enough workers so some are willing to hire skilled workers that do not have college degree. There are two kinds of IT jobs. Entry level technical jobs (programming and testing) and supporting jobs (Technician, documentation writer, sales and customer services) Of course, these workers must at least have some fundamental knowledge about technology. Today a majority of young people are already familiar with computer technology so it is relatively easy for them to learn some skills in few months to a year. Either you can go to a short term training courses at vocational school or if you can access to the web, there are many on line courses that you can learn without pay.
