Technology degree in current job market<\/p>\n

According to a new U.S government report, Information Technology (Computer Science, Software Engineering, and Information System Management) has become the most popular field of study in U.S universities in the past three years due to excellent opportunities in a difficult job market. All U.S Universities reported that the number of students enroll in this field has increased about 30% and many schools began to limit the number of students due to limited space and capacity to teach that many students.<\/p>\n

A computer professor told the newspapers: \u201cToday students have grown up using technologies such as computer; web search engines, social networks and smart phones so go to university and study IT is natural to them. The IT fields allow them the chance to go beyond being someone who uses the technology to someone who create it and that is a powerful transition.\u201d Another business professor explained: \u201cWith the current job market, most students are well aware that opportunities in business, finance, accounting and stock market trading are over with millions of graduates could not find job and the shortage of skilled workers in IT. That is why many students select IT.\u201d Unlike many fields of study, IT students can start high-paying careers with just a Bachelor degree. If they graduate from top universities, they can expect salary as high as a newly graduate Medical Doctor who must spend at least seven years of training.<\/p>\n

According to the 2011 salary report, IT job is on the top ten of the salary scale for engineering and technology graduates with a Bachelor degree:<\/p>\n

Due to the critical shortage of highly skilled IT workers for most technology companies and also to stop the IT outsourcing trend, on 13 May, 2012 a new law was introduced in the U.S. Senate that would dramatically reduce the time international students must wait for green cards after graduating. The STAR Act (S. 3185), introduced by Sen. John Cornyn of Texas represents a significant step forward in the US\u2019s efforts to pass meaningful high-skill visa reform.<\/p>\n

The STAR Act is built around a visa swap. The bill converts 55,000 green cards from the Diversity Visa program into STEM visas. These new visas will be reserved for international students who have earned a masters or PhD in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) from an accredited U.S university and who intend to work for U.S technology companies.
