Job offer dilemma<\/p>\n

A student wrote to me: \u201cI am a Computer Science graduate. I applied to several companies and had three interviews but I did not hear anything from them for few weeks. Yesterday, a company called me and said that they wanted me to work for them. I was happy so I said: \u201cOK, I accepted the offer.” This morning, another company calls me; this is a company that I am very interested in, with another offer so I said: \u201cYes, definitely I like to work for you.\u201d Now I do not know what to do with the first company. Answer: In principle, you have accepted the offer over the phone although you have not signed any paperwork yet. From the legal view, you have not committed to them but from a principle view you already did. Refusing an offer that you have accepted is generally bad. Of course, it is your choice to select what is best for you.<\/p>\n

Making decision between job offers is a tough choice. You must do what is best for you while not get anyone feel angry about your quick decision. Therefore you should always request a few days to consider and use that time to follow up on other companies. Since you already making your decision, there is nothing I can help. Please remember that the next time never accept anything over the phone or make decision without thinking carefully. The best way is thank them and tell them that you will need to think about it in few days and ask them to send the offering letter to you.
